Once again, the goal is not to use Apple mail at all. The question was how to
start a new thread, while looking at the user interface on the web. It does
not appear possible.

Having issues reading the time using Eva full voice on iPhone 13 using latest iOS

2023-03-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi folks,

My preferred voice is the full version of Eva. However, for the last several
iOS iterations, I have noticed that, more often than not, the voice will read
the time incorrectly. What should be spoken as two oh seven PM will end up
being spoken as two minutes zero seconds PM. This is not consistent.
Occcasionally, Eva will read the time as one would expect. But most of the
time I get the misspoken time I demonstrated above. Other voices don’t seem to
have this problem. Has anyone ever noticed this with Eva or any other voice?
Is there a recipe for fixing this problem?

Thanks,
Kevin

How do I start a new conversation in this group using my iPhone and not using Mail?

2023-03-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Subject says it all. I’m writing this on my computer using Apple Mail. I was
looking at ViPhone on my phone and wanted to start a new conversation and
couldn’t figure out how. There has to be a way to start a new topic in this
group from one’s phone without starting with an e-mail generated from Apple
Mail. Right? How does one do that?

Bluetooth keyboard won’t work because I can’t get past the four digit passcode
to unlock the phone. With or without a keyboard. As for A factory restore,
can’t do it without a trust acceptance on the phone. That’s been my problem all
along. dropping it in a bucket of water may be the thing.

Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice

2021-12-06 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I have an old iPhone 6 that belongs to my wife and we want to dispose of it
while making certain that all the data has been wiped. Unfortunately, the
screen of the phone is heavily damaged such that it can't really be read at
all and operating the phone through touch is all but impossible. I did
manage to get into the phone twice on different days. VO does work and
that's the only way we know that the phone has data. but getting in is
not a sure thing. And, even if you manage it, getting around the screens
to the reset is not a certainty.

My wife is sighted and doesn't use VO at all. I tried connecting the phone
to an expendable Win7 computer for the purpose of erasing the data and I
was told by the Win7 machine that, in order to proceed, I would have to
acknowledge the computer's attempt to connect with this damaged phone by
responding on the phone. You can see the problem.

Does anyone have a hack or a suggestion that would allow me to get to the
RESET to factory default by any means at all? My wife is intensely
respectful of piracy and data privacy and merely handing this off to anyone
without making an effort to sanitize it is not desirable.

Any help appreciated.
Best,
Kevin

Guys,

I did manage to pull off the phone to phone transfer from an iPhone 7 running
iOS 14X to an iPhone 13 running 15X and all seems to be going just fine.
Thanks for all the help.

Need advice on how to migrate data from old iPhone 7 to new iPhone 13. Anything I should know?

2021-12-04 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

I just got a new iPhone 13 in the mail. I have an iPhone 7. Historically, I
always moved all my stuff from one iPhone to another, (iPhone 6 to iPhone 7
most recently,) by connecting a cable from my ancient Mac mini 2010 and doing a
hard transfer through iTunes. This would take forever.

It occurs to me that since my iTunes and iPhoto libraries are in the cloud and
all my apps should be there as well, I wonder if it’s possible for me to simply
sign into my iCloud account and connect the phone to AC and let it do its thing
over night. Is that an option? Would it be any faster, more effective, more
efficient? Am I missing anything important?

Thanks for any assistance or advice.

Best,
Kevin

How do I turn Automatic Updates On or OFF on iPhone 7 with latest iOS installed.

2021-08-15 Thread Kevin Gibbs
My wife and I want to know how you can choose the setting to have Facebook and
Facebook Messenger update automatically or not on iPhone 7.

I look at my available updates every day and I think I’ve seen options for
choosing Automatic Updates whenever there is an available update for either FB
or FB Messenger. Currently, both of these apps are up to date on both our
devices. So, I don’t have an option there. Is there. Way to go somewhere and
turn Auto Updates ON or OFF within either FB or the App Store?

Thanks,
Kevin

Apple Watch Series 3 no longer automatically pairs when I first put it on and wake up iPhone 7

2021-07-25 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

For the last couple weeks I’ve noticed that a behavior I rely on no longer
works as expected. Historically, I used to be able to connect my paired Apple
Watch to my iPhone 7 by simply putting it on my wrist, turning it on and then
waking up my iPhone. Now, even though the Bluetooth is turned on and the phone
says the watch is connected, I have to enter my password on my watch. As far
as I know, I shouldn’t have to do that. Has something changed? I did do the
most recent software update but this was going on before that update and the
update hasn’t changed a thing. Is there a setting I have to restore in the
Watch App or somewhere else?

Thanks,
Kevin

Problems getting iMessages on my Mac mini when sent to my phone and vice versa

2021-06-20 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

I recently discovered that my wife was sending me text messages that would show
up on my iPad and computer but not on my phone. I then told her to send to my
phone number and messages she sent there would show up on my phone but not on
my iPad or Mac mini 2010. I went into preferences in messages but couldn’t add
a phone number under where I could be reached. How can I make sure that I get
ALL my text messages on ALL my devices?

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: How to pause a voice memo on iPhone Seven

2021-06-15 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I figured it out. Although, I don't remember this. I always thought that
Pause was the default. But somehow, I have to tap to the left of the
RECORD button to activate the pause option and then tap the PAUSE button
itself, which had been the RECORD button, to get the recording to pause.
No idea how I'd do that if I were a completely blind person and it doesn't
particularly matter. But it seems to be working now. I'm still convinced
I didn't have to do the tap to the left of RECORD until today. But
whatever.

How to pause a voice memo on iPhone seven

2021-06-15 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I have an iPhone 7 with the most current iOS. I have always been able to make a
voice memo recording and touch the record button to have it paused. Suddenly,
after pausing a few times today, I have suddenly lost that ability. Every time
I stop the recording recording ends. How do I restore the pause function?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Trouble syncing iBooks between iPhone 7 running latest iOS 14.4x updated today and Mac mini 2010 running Sierra 1012.6

2021-03-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m seldom here. Have a bit of a head scratcher. I’m trying to sync my iBooks
library between my iPhone/iPad and my ancient 2010 Mac mini running Sierra
10.12.6. when I examined iBooks on my iPhone, I was told I had to update my
Mac Mini to OS 10.12. About this Mac says I’m running 10.12.6. So, I figure
I’m good. But there are sample books on my iPhone that don’t appear on my Mac.
These books are potentially expensive and I would prefer to buy them once I
know they’ll show up on all devices.

I had initially signed in on one Apple ID and now may wish to try signing in on
another on my Mac. But don’t know how to sign out on my Mac to sign back in.
Have no interest in signing all the way out of iCloud in Preferences. That
would suck.

If you could, please write back and copy me at kevj...@gmail.com
to make sure I see this since I almost never visit
viPhone.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: iOS 14.2 won't download & install on iPad Air 2 Ca 2014

2020-11-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi Robert,

No. I’m a mere mortal without access to betas. :). I ended up calling
Accessibility. Was shocked to learn that they answer the phones 24x7. A guy
named Jeremy, based in Tennessee, walked me through the process for updating
the iPad using my ancient Mac mini and a cable. I left him a great review.
Thing is, the customer service comment form was not really accessible using VO.
I used the vision I had to fill out the form and forgot to complain about the
form itself. Oh well. All’s well that ends well.

Re: Weak Security Being Reported

2020-11-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I had the same problem after updating my iPhone7 to 14.1 from 13.7, and
after doing a firmware update on my Deco router. A second subsequent
firmware update has apparently fixed the problem because I no longer get a
week security message. It has nothing to do with passwords. It's about
the WPA option. I don't know enough to say more.

Thanks for the advice. No idea they’d actually answer on the weekend. I’ll
definitely keep this phone number in my Contacts.

Best,

2020-11-21 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Richard,
That’s exactly what I did. Imagine my surprise when they actually answered the
phone just now and solved my problem by guiding me through the steps to update
the iPad with a cable connected to iTunes on my ancient Mac mini. This is a
process I had assiduously avoided for the six years I’ve owned this iPad. All
seems to be well now. Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely keep this number
in my phone for future use.

Best,
Kevin

Yes. Upgraded to something like 250GB when my iPad wouldn’t update. It’s only
a 60GB box with 25GB on it. Storage can’t be the issue.

iOS 14.2 won't download & install on iPad Air 2 Ca 2014

2020-11-21 Thread Kevin Gibbs
My iPad tells me that a new OS is available for download. I have it
charged to 100%. I download and it gets to about 93% downloaded and then
says that an error occurred during the download. My wife has done some
reading and says that one of the reasons might be that there is a partial
copy of this OS somewhere and that I should remove this before attempting
the download again. Pam can't find it anywhere and we don't know what to
do. I'm assuming that if the hardware didn't support the OS, I wouldn't be
given the message to try downloading and installing it. the machine works
fine. but I'd like to update the OS if I'm entitled to do so. I have
already exited iCloud and signed back in without any change to the download
problem. I've tried this on several different days to allow for extreme
traffic downloading the update. I don't think that's the problem. Ideas?

Sender's names inverted in Mail on iPhone Wy? Asking for a friend

2020-11-11 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

My wife has noticed something weird this morning. All of her e-mail is
displaying with the sender’s name inverted, last name first. Instead of
something like “Forks Over Knives,” which is a magazine, it says, “Knives Forks
Over.” Or, try something like University of Pennsylvania changed to
Pennsylvania University Of. We have no idea why. She thinks it has something
to do with the latest iOS update, 14.2, which she just installed. I’m in the
process of installing the same update on my iPhone 7. She has an iPhone7 Plus.

Have any of you ever heard of anything like this? I never have. If it turns
out to be the iOS update, I’m sure the user base will climb down Apple’s throat
and they’ll deal instantly.

Best,
Kevin

Re: iPhone 7 always sends iCloud mail from me.com instead. why?

2020-10-27 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I had tried that without success. See my earlier e-mail concerning turning off
the me address to solve the problem. Someone else said that the address would
not consistently remain turned off. I haven’t encountered that problem yet.
I’ll keep this thread around in case I get into trouble again.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: iPhone 7 always sends iCloud mail from me.com instead. why?

2020-10-26 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I finally solved it. Apparently, the option to alter the Sender address is
at the very bottom under Settings, Mail, Accounts, iCloud. Apparently, my
me.com address was turned ON. turning it off left the iCloud address
partially dimmed but turned on. I've subsequently tested by sending a test
message to the target e-mail list successfully. so sorry to bother you all.

iPhone 7 always sends iCloud mail from me.com instead. why?

2020-10-26 Thread Kevin Gibbs

Guys,

Really sorry to bother you. but I’m ripping what’s left of my hair out.
For some reason, I’ve very recently noticed that I can’t seem to send mail
from my iCloud account on my iPhone 7 running the latest iOS 14. For some
reason, when I send an e-mail from my iCloud account, it sends from
kevj...@me.com instead of kevj...@icloud.com. I can’t seem to find the
settings to change outgoing servers or default sender address for any of my
accounts, particularly my iCloud account. It’s driving me mad because some
of my favorite mailing lists are expecting me to contribute via icloud.com
and I can’t seem to do it. I get the expected Mail Delivery subsystem
message. Curiously, I can reply to an already existing thread. But I
can’t start a new one. I appear to be able to send a new message to a
mailing list that expects me from iCloud from my Mac mini, I think.Any
help greatly appreciated.

Best,

Kevin

How to reverse order of messages in Mail on iPhone 7

2020-10-14 Thread Kevin Gibbs
For some reason, the e-mails on my iPhone are displayed in order which is
the reverse of how they appear in Mail on my Mac mini 2010. Yeah, I know,
ancient box.

Anyway, on my Mac, the most recent message is on the bottom of the list and
the most recent message in a thread is at the bottom of the relevant
thread. On my phone, in Mail, there's a toggle button that says, "Most
recent message on top." But the order of messages is uneffected by either
setting. In either case, the most recent message is always at the top an
the most recent message in a thread is at the top of that thread. What am
I doing wrong? It's real annoying to have my mail messages displayed in
two different orders depending on the device being used.

I'm using iOS14 but that doesn't matter because this has always been this
way since my first iPhone in 2010.

Savng the INZ file

2018-09-11 Thread Kevin Gibbs
In the S A 511 documentation, it says that you don’t recommend saving the INZ
file in the %Program Data% folder. By default, any INZ file is saved in
Program Data\Samplitude Pro X3 Suite, I think. Are you saying that you
shouldn’t save it in the Program Data main folder? Are you saying you should
save it somewhere other than the Program Data\Samplitude Pro X3 Suite Folder?
Is it okay to save it in the default folder? Please clarify.

Need advice on best telecom management strategy when vacationing in the Netherlands and Germany for three weeks from US

2018-08-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

Need info on best option for telecom management when traveling from the US to
the Netherlands and Germany. My wife and I have iPhones which are unlocked, to
the best of our knowledge. Ideally, we need voice and data at a reasonable
cost in Holland and Germany for three weeks.

As I see it, our options are:

1. Buy two local SIMM cards at Amsterdam airport with a large enough data
allowance to send SMS, make local phone calls, upload photos to FB/Instagram
and get directions here and there while traveling.

2. Get two data only cards from a purveyor like Gig Sky and use Skype for the
voice/SMS component. Need info on just how or whether one can forward an
iPhone to a Skype number. May not want to get any unwanted messages from
people in the States because it’s election silly season. On the other hand,
would want to get message from home if house was in trouble while gone.
decisions, decisions.

3. By a My Fi box, also with a local SIMM, and tether our phones to that.
Turn Cellular Data off on phones and kill all push notifications that would
otherwise be active in Wi-Fi environments to prevent unnecessary data
consumption. Again, use Skype or Google Voice or something else to have voice
and SMS capabilities without buying an international voice and data plan from
AT, which I assume is cost prohibitive in even the best case.

Sorry this is such a long message. Trying to imagine all the scenarios from
which I have to choose.Have to make a decision fairly soon. Hope one of
you will answer.

Please CC reply to author in case I don’t get the chance to log into Google
Groups to follow this message. My preferences are set to No Mail because I
visit this list so infrequently.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

2017-10-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Recently, there was some discussion concerning unforeseen consequences of
transposing MIDi events within objects when key switches outside the playing
range of an instrument are concerned. Since Samplitude lacks the ability to
filter notes out of an object transposition selection, I suggest the following:

1. If your object contains key switches which are assigned to keys outside the
playing range of your MIDi keyboard, such that you have to access them by
changing the octave of your MIDi keyboard, you will have to account for these
when you transpose an entire MIDi object because there is as yet no way to
eliminate the key switches when transposing the object. The solution, near as
I can tell, and I haven’t tested this, is this.

2. Before you transpose your object, take note of the MIDi note and number of
the key switch or switches involved.

3. Let’s say that you have a key switch at C0 and another at D0. Let’s say
that you have transposed the MIDi object up a perfect 4th making your key
switches F0 and G0.

4. I would suggest going to the first instance of your new F0 and choosing the
command to select all notes of same pitch. Right now, it isn’t clear what that
command is in the v4 scripts because none is working.

5. In the hypothetical case of a perfect 4th transposition, down arrow 5 times
and your F0 becomes C0 again.

Now, do the same with your G0s, converting them to D0s once more.
Now, here is a complication. Let’s say that you are dealing with an advanced
string part which invokes, say, five different key switches. In this case, you
have to take care not to transpose any key switches back to their original key
in such a way that they collide with temporarily transposed key switches with
which you have not yet dealt by putting them back in their original place. In
this case, the solution is probably to take care to return your transposed key
switches in reverse order of transposition.

For example, if you transposed your key switches up a perfect 4th along with
the entire object, you would want to start returning your key switches
beginning with the lowest key switch. In such a case, you would begin by
transposing any key switch currently at F0 to C0. Any switch at G0 would be
D0, and so on.

Similarly, if you transposed down, you would return your switches by
transposing up beginning with the highest key switch.

HTH,
Kevin

Dictation only works on my iPhone 6 when earphones are connected. Why?

2016-10-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m finding that dictation only works on my iPhone 6 with iOS 9 or 10 when my
earphones are connected. Since my phones have a bad wire that causes only one
ear to work, I assumed that the failure of dictation was global. but, weirdly
enough, when my phones are connected, I get a great dictation response. I
would prefer not to have to wear earphones, working or not, to use the
dictation feature. Any ideas? Dictation works fine on my iPad Air 2 without
phones.

Since i never visit this forum, I’d be grateful if responders would copy me at
this address:
kevj...@me.com , in addition to replying to the group.

thanks for understanding,
Kevin

Changing e-mail from all messages to most recent 150 in Pop3 Gmail account on iPhone 6

2016-03-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m sorry if the subject line isn’t clear. It used to be that my Gmail
account, which is a Pop3 on my iPhone, used to only download the most recent
150 messages, or so. When I upgraded from my iPhone 4, running iOS 6.x, to my
iPhone 6, running iOS 8 and then 9, my Pop3 account changed so that tens of
thousands of e-mails were downloaded to my phone. Space is not an issue. but
I really wish I could change this so that it works the way my iPhone 4 used to.
that is, I only want 150 messages, or less, on my phone unless I choose to
“see more.” Can this be changed?

thanks,
Kevin

The thing is, my iPhone says that my software is up to date. So, I don't think

IOS 9.2.1 and iTunes.

2016-02-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I have updated my phone to iOS 9.2.1 over Wi-Fi connected to AC. Today, I
added some CDs to my iTunes library on my mac mini. I had to connect my iPhone
to my Mac mini to transfer these to my iPhone. I wish I did not have to do
that.

When I connected my iPhone to my Mac mini, I received a message that there was
a new iOS version. I decided not to download it. I hit cancel.

Then, I saw a message saying that there was music on my phone that had not been
transferred to my iTunes library. It was recommended that I not update my
iPhone software until I transferred this material. I allowed the new CDs to be
transferred onto my iPhone. I'm not aware that the music that I have downloaded
over the air to my iPhone is not in my iTunes library. While I am unclear
about this, what I am really concerned about is why iTunes thinks that I am not
updated to the latest version of iPhone software. Looking under software update
on my phone, I get the message that my software is up-to-date. Could anyone
give me advice as to just what I should do? I can continually choose cancel
with respect to the software update thing and simply transfer music from my
iTunes library to my iPhone. But I get the sense that this is not quite right.

Since I don't visit this group very often, I would be grateful if people would
be kind enough to copy me directly on any responses. My email address is
kevj...@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Kevin

Can't synchronize NOTES between iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and Mac mini running Yosemite

2015-11-13 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I have a Mac Mini running Yosemite, an iPhone 6 and an iPad 2 Air, or is it an
iPad Air 2, both of which run iOS 9.1. I used to have synchronized NOTES apps
on my iPhone and Mac Mini where I could start a NOTE on one device and finish
it on another. this was before I acquired the iPad.

Currently, my NOTES synch automatically between my two iOS devices. but my
NOTES app on my Mac doesn’t seem to have any of the notes I’ve written on
either of the other two devices after September of this year. that probably
corresponds to updating to iOS 9 or 9.1. Not sure.

I’m guessing that there’s a setting in iCloud Preferences on the Mac which is
not set correctly, since I did have notes synchronized up to a point. Can
someone tell me where, and on what device, to check for settings?

thanks,
Kevin

comment. I simply wondered if anyone else noticed it and if anyone has any idea

Jumping tw Compose instead of Back

2015-05-21 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Has anyone ever noticed this particular phenomenon on an iPhone when VO is on?
Sometimes, when I try to press the back button at the upper left-hand corner of
the message, I end up being bounced to the compose button. When this happens,
I may unavoidably find myself opening a blank message. At this point, I can,
while voice over is still on, get out of that message sometimes deleting a
draft, sometimes not. When this phenomenon happens and I'm constantly kicked

Re: iCloud and Pages

2015-04-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Do both the computer and the iPhone have to be turned on in order for sink to
occur? I've been leaving my iPhone and Pages Open, sometimes with my phone
charging Bybee and connected to AC. But I haven't had any results. This may be
because my Mac Mini is completely turned off. Do both devices have to be turned
on. One and the same time? It seems to me that once the file is saved in the
cloud Drive it should be in the cloud regardless of whether both devices are
turned on or not.

iCloud and Pages

2015-04-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I am having problems with Pages and iCloud in iOS 8.3 and Yosemite. From what
I understand, if I make changes to a document on either my Mac Mini or my
iPhone, those changes should be reflected in both documents over the network.
The changes don't seem to be reliably taking place on each other's devices.
What might I be doing wrong? And how can I check to make sure that my documents
are being updated correctly?

Re: How to capitalize acronyms

2015-03-26 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Without adding it to the dictionary, saying M I D I gives you capital letters
with spaces between each one. The idea is to put these capital letters indirect
sequence without spaces.

To do this go to settings general keyboard.
 Then choose shortcuts.
Then choose add and then you can type the word with the correct spelling in
the phrase and shortcut edit fields and then choose save.

How to capitalize acronyms

 Guys,
I have a question concerning how to capitalize acronyms. Some acronyms appear
to work, Othersdo not. I want to be able to speak MIDI withoutspaces.

Actually, i'm having type this note by hand after thefirst two sentences.
That's weird, too.

Is there a dictation dictionary that's usereditable?

Answering phone calls on my Mac with Yosemite and IOS 8.1

2014-11-12 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi guys,
I wonder if I could ask yet another question? This question concerns the
ability to answer phone calls at Won's Mac that come in on one's iPhone.

I have been testing this ability by using my house telephone to call my iPhone.
Ocasionally, I will see face time, on my Mac screen. However, even when that
happens, I can't figure out how I could answer the phone call on my Mac.
Further, I hear my iPhone ringing. But I don't hear any sound coming from my
mac the tells me that a phone call is coming in.

My question is this. Is there some setting that I need to enable on my mac that
allows the Mac to make a sound when a phone call is coming in? Also, is there
some setting that I need to enable that more reliably makes sure that the
computer knows that a phone call is coming in in time for me to answer it?

As with my previous question about how to select in the rotor, I wonder if
people would be so kind as to answer me directly by email. I simply don't have
my email settings for this group set up for me to receive individual emails or
even digests for the traffic on this list because I visit you all so
infrequently. So, if anyone knows the answer to this question, I would be ever
so grateful if you would share the answer both with the list, and with me
directly by email at:
kevj...@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best,
Kevin

How to use the select command with in the rotor in iOS 8

2014-11-10 Thread Kevin Gibbs
 Guys,
I realize it has been a long time since I posted to this list. But I have a
question. I am trying to use the select command, available under the edit
option in the rotor in iOS eight. Here is my problem. I seem to only be able
to select one word when I choose select under edit. I don't know how to
expand the selection one word at a time, or one sentence at a time, or one
paragraph at a time. Could someone please explain to me how one does that?

Right now, I am on the road. And I don't have my settings set to give me
emails of responses to my questions on this list. So, anyone who wishes to
respond to this question would really do me a favor by copying me directly at
my email address. That address is, kevj...@gmail.com. Inquiring minds really
 want to know.
Thank you so much for any help Vance.

 Best,
 Kevin

Re: How to update IOS on original iPod touch

assuming I choose set to factory default on the iPod and then connect to
iTunes, will I have the option of choosing an IOS version other than 7? I've
never operated IOS 7 before. I'd love to set this thing at IOS6 if I could.
Is that possible? And, I assume that, if I do this, I won't have any effect on
my wife's e-mail accounts that were on this iPod and which are still on her
iPhone 4 and iPad 2 as iMAP. Remember, they were POP3 on this iPod.

thanks,

Multiple IOS devices on same iTunes account

2014-02-08 Thread Kevin Gibbs
If you have multiple IOS devices onthe same iTunes account on the same Mac, one
iPhone, one iPod, one iPad, can they have distinct profiles with respect to
what content is synced to each device? I want only my music library synced to
my iPod. Whereas, I want my library, photos, mail, contacts and apps sync he'd
to my iPhone. Is this possible?

Re: BARD Movile app won't extract the file

The solution was that I didn't have enough space on my iPhone. Apparently,
2GB is not enough to download all but the smallest books. So, I dumped a
couple videos and , Voila. I had space for one book. Time for an iPHone
5S.

The ap store says something like version 4.3 and higher. I was trying the Game

successfully for me to try.

BTW, I have 2GB of free space on my phone, could that be the problem?

Re: BARD Movile app won't extract the file

2014-02-02 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I did keep the iPhone app in the foreground. As near as I can tell, the files
never completely downloaded. Shortly before a given file would have finished,
when the progress bar was at over 90%, a dialog box popped say Ong that the
file was not extractrmed and giving me the option to retry or cancel. Retry
would restart a fruitless download. Cancel would remove the title from the
wish list entirely.

Hope I'm clear,

Can't send to this group without sight

2013-07-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I am al low vision user. So sometimes I drop in and out with voice over and
vision. I've noticed that I can't send a message to this groupfrom my iPhone
without using my vision. That is, I have to turn voiceover off and type a
little envelope icon at the far right of the screen in order to get a new
message to open up. How do you people send a message if you're completely blind
using voice over alone on an iPhone?

google maps in general

2013-07-02 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Actually, I have been using Google maps very successfully during the three-week
road trip. My wife, who is cited, has been the driver. I have been the
navigator. When the app opens, type on the search icon. When the search box
opens in the typewriter keyboard exposes itself, simply type in the address you
want to go to.

The app then assumes that you are going to want directions based on your
current location. When using the app for the first time, try and get cited
assistance. After that, you should be able to use it by yourself.

MBraille

2013-06-28 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Is anyone using MBraille? I just bought it. I think it's really great. The
only problem is that I can't seem to make the app add a recipient's email
address in the TO field of an e-mail, even after carefully following all
instructions. Let me know if any of you are having the same problem. If you
are not aware of this iPhone app, I highly recommend it.

Best,
Kevin

Re: Huffpost upgrade with reduced accessibility

2013-05-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I was just going to comment on the fact that the HuffingtonPost is no longer
accessible. I've had exactly the same problem that the original poster
describes. I'm glad to hear it isn't just me. Hopefully, the next update will
fix this. Although ,there has been one subsequent update do with this app and
no fix so far.

I forgot one other thing. I can't figure out how one saves an article as a
favorite with this new upgrade.

Re: NLS app Podcast?

2013-05-12 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
I just heard the blind access journal podcast on the new NLS app. I think it's
fascinating. I did find it interesting to hear about reading braille on iOS
devices. I assume this involves using a Bluetooth connected braille display?

Also, I don't really understand the reference to 8 DOT space braille. I
gather you have to have number eight DOT braille enabled but you still end up
reading in six dots. Can anyone enlighten me a little further about this 8 dot
braille system?

Any users of Brailist notice this?

2013-05-11 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I realize I seldom post here. I just noticed something interesting about
Braillist. Apparently, the hardwired mappings in the app have assigned the
letters bet in succession to the word between. That means you can't use the
word bet for anything. Now, my braille is a little rusty. As I recall, the
contraction for between is probably something like dos 2-3, followed by the
letter t, or is it bt. Whatever the case, it definitely isn't bet. So, is
there any way to alter the key mappings that come with Braillist? Can I delete
the association of bet with between?

One other thing, in my opinion, the so called Next key, located at the bottom
of the center column, which works in manual mode, should be the caps lock in
automatic mode. Currently, the app assigns dot 5 to the caps lock function.
this illuminates all the dot 5 contractions in North American braille. this
means that people could develop some nasty bad habits with respect to learning
their contractions. any thoughts?

RE: Spotify

2013-05-11 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I use Spotify a lot. Unfortunately, while it is accessible beautifully on the
iPhone, it is absolutely not very accessible on the Mac itself. Does anyone
have any experience using Spotify with VoiceOver on a Mac?
