RE: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-13 Thread Carolyn Arnold
As long as Voice Control does not take anything away from Voice Over, it is
unfortunate that we might not be able to use it, but if it takes something away
from Voice Over, then, big time problem.

Exactly, voice control sounds great, but it would appear that at least parts of
it require sight, e.g. you ask for the grid to come up which displays numbers
on the screen for certain items and you have to be able to see the number which
corresponds to an item. Let's not forget that feature is primarily meant for
people with mobility issues, people who are paralized or can't easily tap and
swipe for whatever reason. Let's also not forget that voice input programs like
Dragon Naturally Speaking always have required users to jump through quite a
few hoops to work with screenreaders. As Harry said, let's wait and see, we
should find out more relatively soon as the first public beta will probably
come out in about 3 weeks give or take a few days. Of course we have to wait
and see if public beta 1 is safe to install especially for those who have only
one device and have to rely on it for daily use. I know, for example, that for
Voiceover users of the first developer beta the app store apparently was
unusable so let's see.

In an Applevis podcast where they interviewed a couple of the accessibility
team at Apple, they did state that Voice Control will probably work with
headphones when VoiceOver is on, but that was all. They are initially hoping to
get it working for the community it was intended for, then improve from there,
like they did with Assisted Touch all them years ago.

Re: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread 'christopher hallsworth' via VIPhone
I can see why no one has mentioned this yet, but suffice to say in iOS 13 there
may be a feature that can help, depending how much VoiceOver will or will not
work from the outset. It is called Voice Control and it is going to work a lot
like the days of Dragon Naturalyspeaking on Windows if anybody can remember
that? In other words, you will be able to tell your iOS device exactly what to
do just by using your voice. This includes dictating and editing text,
navigating and using apps, and so on. So, in theory, your client could say, as
of iOS 13, `tap end call`, and the call should end, just like that. Also, no
voice commands will be sent to Apple; it will all be processed on the device.

RE: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think that used to work on some of the older phones, but it does not now, you
say there is no reason why it shouldn't work, but then again there really is no
reason why it should if Apple doesn't set it up this way.

I remember seeing somewhere that you can double press the lock button and it
will hang up a phone call. I believe it works with VoiceOver. There is no
reason why it shouldn’t work.

Sorry, Tara, I refuse to be seen smooching with my iPhone 😗🤣

Why would I try to double tap my phone with my lips if I can do so with my
fingers?

As for iOS 13, I strongly suspect that with the new voice control you will be
able to hang up a phone call by voice and hopefully even tell it to dial a
number when you call somewhere and it asks, for example, Press 1 for English
etc.

We'll have to wait and see as to how useful and accessible these voice controls
are for a Voiceover user. The Google Home speakers, by the way, can already do
this. If you call a number where you have to make a selection you can just say
"Hey google, dial 1" or simply "Hey Google, 2".

Regards,

Sieghard

Here is an innovative way of disconnecting the call. Or achieving the effect of
double finger double tap You can gently tap the screen of the phone two
times on slightly parted lips. I have tried it and it works please try that

Technically it is not kissing. And of course not smooching either Sieghard
it’s like bumping onto something with your lips slightly parted. People do
salivate for iPhones, your phone will not enjoy the saliva though.
For three finger gestures, two lips and one nose can be used together. I am
finding this discovery hilarious and yet very useful.

I just tried this myself: I rang a number and when it went through to
voicemail. I quickly double clicked the power/sleep button. My iPhone thought I
wanted to pay for something! When I dismissed that, the phone call to the
company’s voicemail was still continuing. So, it does look like there is no way
to end a phone call when using VoiceOver if you cannot manage double-taps. I do
hope iOS 13 sorts this out!

RE: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Right, I thought, maybe pressing twice might. Then, eventually, she is going to
have to delete her recent calls, voice mails, message, reminders - all that
stuff, regardless how helpful Siri is, she does not have deleting capability.

Best regards,

Carolyn

wake on and iPhone set to automatically answer calls after 5 seconds and she
can use Hey Siri to make calls. What she’s just found is that, if the number

I remember seeing somewhere that you can double press the lock button and it
will hang up a phone call. I believe it works with VoiceOver. There is no

Re: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread regina alvarado

This is an interesting and timely problem. I have a friend who got her screen
curtain on but could not do the three finger triple tap to get it off. I know
this was anxiety and perhaps a little frustration mixed in because when she put
down the phone overnight just like that the next morning she tried on a whim
and it went off. However, during the time she was having trouble because she
had put on assisted touch I began trying to figure out how to make a new
gesture for her in assistive touch. When I called Apple Accessibility about the
problem, after I failed myself to help, they told me assistive touch is not
hooked (wrong word, but not sure what the word is, to VO. It didn't make sense
to me because people who are blind sometimes have difficulty with their hands
just like sighted people. They told me there was no way to help the situation,
but when I pointed out the problem she said she would absolutely put the
problem of assistive touch to the engineers. So, no way of knowing if there may
be a solution, but at least they are looking into it. The rotor and the twist
is another really hard gesture to do for people with bad hands, shaking or
wrist problems. I myself can do it, but I cannot turn back. I have to go
completely through my rotor settings after using one to find a previous one. No
understanding of why. My wrist just won't go left. Anyway, if they work on this
problem and hook the answer to VO I think it can only make the iPhone
experience even better for more people.

Subject: Ending a call with Siri?

I’m helping a lady with very little sight and Parkinson’s: she struggles to tap
or swipe, so I set up her iphone 7 with VoiceOver on, no passcode, raise to
wake on and iPhone set to automatically answer calls after 5 seconds and she
can use Hey Siri to make calls. What she’s just found is that, if the number
she calls goes onto voicemail, she has no way to end the call! She can manage
to single click or hold down the Home button, but the two-fingerdouble-tap is
too hard. I hadn’t realised that it is impossible to summon Siri during a phone
call. Does anyone know how she might end a phone call?
Thanks
Harry

RE: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I have tried it and it works please try that

to end a call, so good idea for iOS 13!

That is the way to reject an incoming call, but if you are the person making
the call, pressing the power button just locks the screen and you are still on
that call. Thanks anyway.

Re: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread Richard Turner
Pushing the sleep power button does not hang up the phone. I just confirmed
that by calling my office and when the answering machine answered, pressing the
power button did nothing.
It would appear that either touching the end call button with one finger and
double tapping, or using the two finger double tap are the only ways to hang up
the call if VoiceOver is on.

I am fairly sure Siri cannot help here.
This would be a good thing to point out to Apple, both through Apple
Accessibility and through the feedback form on their web site.
Given their plans to make iOS 13 more useable for people with physical
disabilities maybe they could do something about this.

Re: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread Chris Chaffin

Could be wrong, but doesn't hitting the sleep / power button hang up a call?

Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-12 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
Thanks
Harry
