be careful with smart recharge iPhone cases, I won't buy one again

2020-08-19 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I have had a very bad week when it comes to technology and
the iPhone. Usually, I'm very careful and I have no problems.
However, things have been horrible. I bought from a company for the
blind a smart iPhone case which I haven't had for a week yet. This
case was great, I had no problems putting the iPhone in the case and
it worked very well. If I used the power in my iPhone, I could charge
the phone one time completely, and a little over 60% before I'd need
to recharge my iPhone again. Well, a couple days ago, I was using a
cable that I also bought from this blind company that had 3 cables
built into it. A lightning cable, micro USB, and USBc. Well, the
lightning connector kind of bent when I picked up my phone to take a
phone call. So that cable as far as using the lightning charging
cable was no good. Last night I wanted to take my phone out of the
smart case for a minute. I'd gotten pretty good at putting my iPhone
in a case, and there was one case, my Otterbox case that I wanted to
see if I could put my iPhone in. I had some trouble, so I put my
iPhone back in my new smart charge case. Since the incident with the
lightning cable, it seemed that my iPhone was charging a little slower
then usual. I didn't think anything of it, but now I think I know
what was happening. Before I went to bed, I thought my iPhone wasn't
in my charging case as tight as it should have been. I kind of pushed
down on my iPhone a little bit and the phone seemed in the case just
fine. Well, earlier, I decided to use a set of wired headphones so I
grabbed one of those lightning to 3.5 mm adapters. I plugged the
adapter in my iPhone, and plugged in the headphones. I noticed that I
had no sound coming from the headphones and my voiceover was coming
from my iPhone. I thought I'd take my iPhone from the charging case
and check out my phone. Well, I forgot that those smart charging
cases have a built in lightning connector on them. The lightning
connector was bent all to heck which I noticed once my iPhone was out
of the charging case. My regular lightning port of my iPhone does
seem to be okay because I can charge my iPhone and I tried those
headphones and they work just fine when I tried them with my iPhone.
I can't believe I broke all that stuff. I feel like such an idiot.
My dad put my iPhone in my otterbox case so now my iPhone has a nice
case to protect it. I just bought myself a 1 MA portable battery
which I'll be using with my iPhone if I do go out anywhere.

Hi,

I'm wondering if someone has any experience switching from the
OutterBox iPhone case to the LifeProof iPhone case. Just wondering if
both of these iPhone cases provide the same amount of protection as
it relates to impact.

Re: Comparison of iPhone Cases

2013-07-10 Thread Joseph Hudson
Hello Robin, I have had experience with OtterBox defender, OtterBox commuter,
and delight proof cases. The OtterBox funds can get dirtier a whole heck of a
lot easier than the life proof. So I really do think that the light cases maybe
have a little bit more protection then the OtterBox cases, for instance my
brother. Got his iPhone five about two months ago, and just a few weeks ago he
was out working on a job. And he was driving a machine called a bobcat hysteron
proteron of this pocket, and he did not notice it until he got home and by that
time it was already dark. He went back to the job site, and they looked for his
phone. The phone, and the case we're down the close together the case was
shattered. But the phone only have one scratch on it whatsoever. So that just
goes to show you how well protected a life proof case is.

Re: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?

2013-06-06 Thread Alan Paganelli
Ari, you have the same case as I. My wife didn't like it because she said it
took up to much room in her lab coat. She got one of those no name rubberized
cases that reduced the size by offering little protection and relying on the
rubberized part to keep it from falling out of her pocket. Surprisingly enough
it actually works.

On the other hand, my iPhone has been out of it's case maybe twice but I know
once for sure. We thought my screen was starting to go out. Right in the
center of the screen was this tiny white dot. We took my phone back to the
ATT store and the young fellow who sold it to us and put my phone in the case
looked at it with a magnifying glass and started to chuckle. Then he took the
case apart and blew the speck of dust off the inside of the plastic cover and
cleaned it with a micro fiber cleaning cloth, put it all back to gather and
couldn't help himself from chuckling just a little. I apologized for wasting
his time and he said no, I'd rather do this all day then to have to tell people
their phone can be fixed but it won't be cheap.

I liked this young kid. He knows what he's talking about and had never tried
Voice over and said let's check it out together and we'll both learn something
together. He spent several hours with me looking up gestures and enough stuff
to get me started. To top it all off, he gave me his personal iPhone number
saying call me if you need help or you forgot a thing or two.

Like I said, he didn't laugh to hard and the lad is only about as old as my son

A friend of mine has the Otterbox Commuter, which didn't look bad at all.
It's certainly a little less bulky than the Defender, which is the case that I
have right now.

Hi,
unfortunately your not going to get around the bulkiness issue when it comes to
cases with belt clips. If you want just a small case and no protection you
could just get a leather belt case. But in my experience I've found these to be
worthless and taking my phone out of the case scary's me because it's not
protected. That being said there is the lifeproof case and the otterbox
defender.

RE: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?

2013-06-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Raul and others,

A friend gave me a case he bought I believe on Monoprice.com. Unfortunately
I don't know the name, but I believe it was only $6 or something like that.
It's a very minimal hard plastic case which covers the entire back of the
phone except of course for the camera hole. It also covers the 2 long sides
with cut-outs for the volume buttons and the mute switch. The top and bottom
are open but the back of the case sticks out ever so slightly, I mean maybe
a sixteenth of an inch, it's enough for the edge of the case to take the
impact, but very little.

The phone snaps into the case very securely and it adds almost no bulk, but
this case has the added benefit to come with a belt clip which can also
swivel, i.e. you can turn it so your phone is in landscape mode so to speak
which is important if you want to use the phone on your belt with apps like
Blindsquare. For apps that use the compass the phone has to point in the
direction you are going instead of up and down and I find that this works
very well for me. The case that is on the phone slides into the belt clip
and it's a friction fit, you put the bottom end of the phone in to the top
of the belt clip opening and push it down and you can, if you want, push it
in top first if you want the phone to be upside down which I find sometimes
is more handy if you plan to use the phone while it's in the belt clip.

It is also very easy to slide the phone out if you don't have a headset
connected and you want to take a call. I know it sounds too easy, but it
really is a very snug and secure friction fit yet easy to slide in and out.

The only complaint I have is that the belt clip is not as strong as for
example the one that came with my Lifeproof case. It's secure, but if
somebody gave it a really hard yank it could probably be pulled off.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi, unfortunately I don't know of other cases other than Otter Box and
Griffin cases which have belt clips. Also, those are the thicker cases If
you want something which doesn't add too much bulk I would be surprised if
it came with a belt clip. However with all that, I could be wrong.

Re: iphone cases with battery extenders?

2013-01-11 Thread Brett

 Hi,

Yes, they do. I use the Mophie duce pack and it will charge my phone
when flat to about %80. Other wise, I can just leave the case on and the
iPhone will use the cases battery until its dead, then use its own, It
extends my battery life by about two thirds. I find it very handy and
its not too big either.

Cheers,

Brett

Re: iphone cases with battery extenders?

2013-01-11 Thread Alan Paganelli
David, I use a USB charger. They come in various power capacities such as
1000 mAh, 1800 mAh, 2200 mAh etc. They connect to your iPhone using your
data cable and plug into a USB port on the charger. There is also a
flip-down adapter that permits charging via a wall outlet. When no outlet
is handy like in your pocket or purse, just connect your sync/charge cable
to your phone and to the USB port on the charger and press the recessed
button. The 1000 mAh charger will recharge a dead iPhone once. Of course,
the batteries with more power can recharge more times or more devices.
Usually though there are 2 USB ports on the charger. I bought a sync/data
cable that retracts and that works great when your out and about and power
is getting low. You can also be charging your phone wile talking on it.

Note: the batteries with greater capacity are also larger in size. My 1800
mAh charger is enough to recharge 2 devices fully from being dead. In my
case, it's most often my iPhone 4 and my Bluetooth ear peace.

HTH

PS: I should also say that there are solar chargers which add one more
rankle to the mix meaning they can be charged by the sun, by it's own
battery or plugged into a wall outlet. Other chargers work with a battery
inside a case for the phone. Still others work by laying your phone on a
pad. No need to take it out of a case etc. Just more ways to get you to
spend your money. I like the 1800 mAh recharger because, it's smaller then
a deck of cards, can recharge 2 devices at once and turns it's self off when
your phone is fully charged or as high as it can before it dies but it
always disconnects so it doesn't steal power from your phone's battery.

Re: iPhone Cases

2012-10-12 Thread James Mannion
I just received today the model that covers the back and sides. This
one is called the Tech21 Impact Snap case for IPhone 5. As I say, I
just received it and put it on, but so far I do like it. My only
question and possible concern so far is not one unique to this case in
any way that is not a factor of others, but that most of the case is
made of polycarbonate, which in my understanding is a form of plastic?
and the thing I wondered about is if that is in fact like plastic in
its heat trapping properties, if it will allow the IPhone to have
enough exposure to be able to sufficiently cool when it heats up from
higher intensity processes. I do wonder if anyone has any insight
about that. I'm sure experience will reveal the reality. If an IPhone
can survive pretty much being sealed off from the world almost within
the Otter Box, I guess this would be the same to a lesser degree than
that though. So as not to confuse anybody, the D3o material is in at
least two strips that run up and down the long edges of the case. I
guess the idea is if this material hardens, it will take the impact
and the other part of the surface area of the case will not take a
direct hit. As mentioned in another reply, this case is pleasing in
that it does not add a lot of bulk to do the job. It also doesn't feel
or look really cheap either. It is pretty nice to the touch when on
the phone especially. Of course it is right against the metal of the
phone so there is that solid backing there, although the case feels
respectibly solid for sure even before you put it on the phone when
you take it out of the package. Make no mistake though, it would not
feel as nice if this was entirely what the phone external casing was
made of from the factory with no metal involved. Plenty of phones on
the market are exactly that or worse. Sometimes much worse. The case
does not get in the way of any buttons or ports. They are all cut out
and it is not the type of case that puts any of its own covers over
any buttons to push them through. In my opinion that is a very good
thing that it does not do that. I don't want to push buttons through a
case's plastic coverings. My preference. Finally, I have come across
youtube videos for a Tech21 case that is said to be entirely real
leather with the D3o in it and of course an internal lining and it is
said to be very nice. It is a flip case. I can not find it anywhere
though, I could not even get it to come up in a search result
searching on the Tech21 site. None of its reviews were done by anyone
in the US though that I found and they only referenced a place to get
it in the UK. I emailed Tech21 about that, to ask about its
availability, we'll see if I get a response. A response won't be til
next week at the earliest though as I just sent the email a few hours
ago.

Neil,

Do you have any knowledge of how much bulk these cases would add to the
phone? One thing I really like about the snap on TPU cases is that they add
practically no bulk at all to the phone. Not as much protection as many
other cases but the beauty of the phone is maintained while feeling good in
the hand.

Best,

Rick, I fully agree with the TPU cases. Although I don't have the
snap-on cases, I do have the form-fitting TPU cases of many different
colors and even though the cases don't cost much, it adds the right
amount of protection with little bulk. Plus, because I care, they look
nice too. smile.

What's the difference between a snap on case and your form fitting case? I
thought those were interchangeable names for the same type of case. I call

Subject: TPU iPhone cases - was OtterBox impact case

Hi, I got them from Amazon. And in fact, it was due to my daughter
getting some for her iPhone 3GS that I got the idea to check into them
from Amazon. I have 2 types. One are the TPU circle pattern cases and
the other is the s-pattern case. I will provide links below. I'll refer
to each as the circle case and the s-case even though they are obviously
iPhone cases.

The circle case and the s-case both fit the phone very snugly and do not
add bulk. However the s-case seems to fit it even more snugly as you
have to be sure your screen protector is on perfect, otherwise you might
pull up the corner.

The circle case doesn't have friction grips on the sides, but the s-case
does. I like the grippies on the sides because it provides a more secure
feeling when you hold the phone.

The circle case covers the sleep and volume buttons, but the s-case only
covers the sleep button. There is a longer hole on the left side to give
you access to the mute, and volume buttons. I prefer the volume buttons
to be covered,so for that I like the circle case better.

The circle case covers the entire back of the phone minus the camera
port of course. However the s-case has a raised circle in the back where
the Apple logo shows, in addition to the camera port. So, if you are
like me and Amy, you want no hole exposing part of your phone. smile.
So, for this, I prefer the circle case.

The circle case has an over all smooth feeling whereas the s-case has a
mostly smooth feeling except the pattern making the s-shape in the back.
It has both a smooth and a slightly rough feeling so you can definitely
tell where the s-pattern is.

Both cases come in different colors and both cases offer similar minor
protection. Both cases are designed to protect the phone from light
bumps and scrapes and are mainly designed to let the phone shine.
Neither case covers the screen at all. Neither case covers the home
button at all. I recommend a screen protector with these cases, but be
sure to have it on perfectly. Especially with the s-case.

The links to the cases I got are below. Oh, and watch out for link
splitting in case the link is too long. If you want to do your own
search for them whether through Amazon or whatever, do a search for the
keywords iphone 4 tpu circle or iphone 4 tpu s-shape.

Hi yes, either my pockets are tight, or I just have bad luck. Also, I
do

have a back protector on as well because I don't like the round circle
exposed even if it shows off the Apple logo nicely. However the TPU
cases I was talking about in another post cover that area and do show
a
 nice circle design around it.

Wow. Did your impact case catch on things in your pocket? That's very
 interesting to me.

See, because I'm a tad neurotic, I really don't like the back glass
 exposed
or not covered at all. Again, that's just me. I'm even neurotic
enough
 to
put one of the back protectors over the glass, which is also then of
 course
sitting in the Impact case. LOL
I don't know why that back glass being exposed bugs me.
