Good Morning fellow wamuggers

It’s been a while and sorry I missed the meeting yesterday, I would have liked
to learn a little more about AIRDROP.

My reason for contacting the list today is because I am being bombarded with a
message that keeps repeating every 5 or so minutes, it shows in the top right
hand corner of my desktop under the safari logo telling me that I have 5
viruses in my system and the name used is VINEGARD ?? I have tried to find the
source as to how this message is activated but I can’t find it, the message
appears even with the wireless turned off, so it’s within my system somewhere.
Any thoughts guy’s?

Re: [WAMUG] Corrupt Card.

   Hi Stephen

Thank you for your advice, I’ll give it a go. Does the program actually
look for the corrupted Card? The main problem that I am having is that
I can’t locate the card, if the card can’t be located then I can’t
   retrieve the Photo’s.

Hopefully there is some way of retrieving the photo’s. I wrote to the
Card Company asking if they could help, I’m still waiting for a reply.

Thank you again Stephen, I’ll let the group know of the results either
   way.

   Kind Regards

 Hi Tony.

I downloaded an app called “Picture Rescue 2” a while ago.

It worked brilliantly to save some image files from a corrupted drive.

I have now used it twice with great success.

I suggest looking for it and downloading.

Lynette and I would get at least 3 of these nuisance e-mails per day, we just
delete them.

I am trying to download Photo’s stored in iCloud with minimal results, after
about 3 hours iCloud downloaded 18 Photo’s, I am unable to download any more,
at my last attempt I was informed that iCloud was downloading over 65,000
items?? I just want to retrieve the Photo’s that I want!

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

[WAMUG} Fwd: Epson.

2021-03-30 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hello Stephen

I was afraid of that.
I have just received a message back from Epson requesting further information
and an add to pay for a 12 month Epson Protection Policy. I couldn’t have been
clearer with the information that I supplied, disappointing.

So it looks as though I will have to Purchase a New Scanner if I wish to copy
my Slides and Negatives.

Thank you again Stephen.

Kind Regards

Hello fellow Wamuggers,

Thank you for your replies.
Stephen, I have spent time on the Epson Web Site and “Contact us”, goes to
which Country or district are you from, nowhere does it mention Australia,
Oceania, or the USA, so it is a little frustrating that I can’t actually reach
Epson on line.

I’ll try an Epson seller in W.A. and see if they can help, having just upgraded
to a New iMac it may just mean that I’ll have to upgrade to a New Scanner,
hasn’t been a good start to 2021, but just like me there’s parts that are just
gradually breaking down and need replacing Lol.

Re: [WAMUG} Scanner.

2021-03-28 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Guy’s

I would like to know if any of our Members have had a problem with a Photo
Scanner?

I have an Epson Perfection 4870 Photo Scanner and until recently I was able to
scan Negatives and Slides (Positives), for some reason I am only able to scan
Photo’s, Colour or Black and White and Documents, I have a feeling that the
lamp that the scanner uses to enable me to scan Negatives or Slides has died,
would anyone know if that could be the problem.

I have spent almost a day trying to find information as to the problem without
success.I actually downloaded another Driver,/ update, also without success.
Tried the scanner with an Older Computer, that didn’t work either.

Previously when I was using the scanner a drop down box would show me the
options available, ie: Positive. Negative. Text. Colour. Black and White.

Now all the drop down box shows: Text. Colour. Black and White. - Positive and
Negative have disappeared.

Thank you

Kind Regards

Re: [WAMUG} Compact Flash Card.

2021-01-01 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Peter

Re: The 4 Finger salute, have used this method Peter but it only lasts for a
short while. I have a memory of Ronni warning me of processing Photo’s, which
is my hobby, that for each photo processed the computer makes a copy, which is
probably the cause of my problem, too many copies, but where do they hide, I’ve
tried searching but to no avail. If I can find the copies I can delete them. I
have been using Affinity Photo and processing RAW files.

Thanks Peter

Re: Compact Flash Card.

2020-12-23 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Good Morning Stephen

Thank you for your suggestions, all tried but without success, when I opened Disk
Utility the Card was no where to be seen, the Card Reader is working ok, having
tried other cards all working fine. The Card isn’t working in the Camera and I
have tried the Card in a different Camera, so I’ll have to see if an IT person
can help, otherwise the Photo’s will remain locked away. One suggestion from
the “ Camera" was that the Card needed re-formatting, I don’t think that would
be the way to go as I’ll lose everything.
SanDisk trouble shooting wasn’t very helpful either, all assume that the Card
will be found by searching. So I think I’ll drop SanDisk an e-mail and see if
any of their technicians can help.

Again thank you for your help Stephen.

Kind Regards

Tony Francis

Hello Stephen

Thank you for the information, I have downloaded Picture Rescue 2, the only
problem is that the Flash Card can’t be seen even though the Card Reader is
connected, if i remember correctly I can search the Computer to find a “Hidden”
Card or Hard Drive but I can’t remember exactly where to look, any ideas please?

Thanks Stephen

Re:Compact Flash Card.

2020-12-23 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Good Afternoon WAMuggers

I have a question and know that I should remember this but long forgotten.

I have a card reader connected to my Computer and up until now the Card reader
and card have been working properly.
The Card reader no longer shows up on the Desktop of the Computer, so I tried
the card in the Camera and the Camera shows “Card No1 cannot be accessed”.

I remember that if something, ie a Hard drive, is connected to the computer but
isn’t showing that I can go into the System to see if it is hidden?

And lastly is there anyone that I can turn to to attempt to retrieve the
Photo’s from the Card?

Thanks to one and all

Kind Regards

track, thank you I’ll also save your reply and your other tips as they may just

Hi Steven

Sorry, I have two External Hard Drives that I have at different times
connected to my Computer, both turned “On” but don’t show up on the Desktop, I
have a third that as soon as it is connected into the Computer it is recognised

I had this problem once before and Ronnie gave me instructions on how to check

Hi Guy’s
Just a question, I have an iPhone 6S , recently I have “No Service” showing on
my phone, I can send e-mails and certain messages, see FB, but I can neither
receive phone calls nor make them.
I have shutdown the phone and restarted, I have also removed the SIM card and
replaced it all to no avail.
My Wife also has the iPone 6S without any problems.
Any suggestions please.

I am having problems with the e-mail page, whilst using e-mail it will
unexpectedly shutdown for no apparent reason, whether I am writing an e-mail,
reading the e-mails, or deleting mail, so far it has shutdown 5 times in less
than half an hour. I have quit everything, then re-started the Computer but it
doesn’t seem to resolve the problem for long.

Would anyone have an idea on how to resolve the problem please?

Hi Peter

I went browsing through the Preferences and went to “search” opened “Manage
Websites found and removed the search.feelbegin.com
<http://search.feelbegin.com/> address.

Hopefully it won’t appear again.

Thank you for your advice

Re: "Not Secure".

2019-12-14 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Ronni

I have totally removed Malware from my Computer, but the problem still exists
at present, if I put in a search request into the “Search the Web Box”, the
‘Box goes blank and I am left with the "Not Secure-search.feelbegin.com
<http://secure-search.feelbegin.com/>”, in the top address box.
I tried to search the “maleware tips” address that you supplied but the site
"couldn’t be found at this time”. How do I remove this Not Secure problem and
what would you recommend as an alternative to Malware?

Thanks Ronni

Kindest regards

Good Morning to one and all

Just recently I tried to connect a WiFi Booster to my Wireless Modum, all went
well after a few attempts, the Wireless speed increased.
Upon restarting the Computer the WiFi Booster was not working, fine!! I’ll go
through the whole scenario again, I’m obviously doing something wrong.
Now, the problem that I have now is that whenever I try to connect to the
Internet using the Search Bar in the middle of my screen, the connection fails
with “Not Secure-search.feelbegin.com showing in the top search bar.
If I put my search address into the top bar I don’t have a problem, any idea as
to what I have changed or how to rectify the problem?

Thanks all

Hi All,

I turned on my Wireless this morning and just checked the “Open network
Preferences” and this is what showed. I have no idea who or what MR1100 is,
should I be worried??

Hi Ronni

Sorry for the late reply, I was phone less for two days, don’t ask.
Yep,can’t always believe the packaging Ronni, but problem solved, I'm using the
Samsung Phone with my iPhone Sim Card in it, working well, at least until I can
resolve the problem with the Nighthawk. Now I just have to sort out Telstra via
the Ombudsman.

Cheers Ronni as always

Good Morning fellow Wamugger’s

FYI

I now have the answer to my question in regards to my not being able to use my
iPhone for Hotspotting with my Entertainment Box. Because the Entertainment Box
is ANDROID friendly and will recognise the Samsung phone, the iPhone being ISO
friendly isn’t recognised by the Entertainment Box.

Re: Hotspotting.

2019-01-14 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Sorry Ronni,
There seems to be some confusion here, the Nighthawk M1, was fine whilst it was
working properly. As it is no longer working I tried to hot spot with my
iPhone, the Entertainment Box couldn’t find a Wireless signal from the iPhone.
When our House guest used his SAMSUNG Phone there was no problem and we have
been using it on a daily basis for up to 3 hours, he has unlimited data usage.
When I took the SIM card out of my iPhone and put it into the SAMSUNG phone I
could hotspot?? Trying the iPhone again,no joy, hence my question.

Thanks Ronni

Kindest Regards

Tony

Re: Hotspotting.

2019-01-14 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Thank you Susan & Ronni

As I mentioned earlier I’m having “fun” with Telstra in relation to the
Wireless Modum, Net Gear-Nighthawk, the Modum used 39 GB’s in about 5 hours
watching T V Shows. On our House Guests Samsung Phone using “Hotspot’ for 2.5
hours we used 1.4GB’s. A definite problem with the Wireless Modum.

The Entertainment Box will not recognise the iPhone whilst attempting to
“hotspot”, so, I tried something different this morning, I put my iPhone's Sim
Card into the Samsung and the phone was recognised and I was able to Hotspot,
hence my query with using the iPhone.
I am actually ‘HotSpotting” with my iPhone through the Computer to write to
you. Never a problem connecting to our other Apple products,Computer, Lap Top,
iPad(s) or iPhones, it is just the Entertainment Box (purchased from the UK,
and is supposed to be Mac friendly) that I am having trouble with.

I haven’t had a great loss of data with using the Modum Ronni, before the
trouble started, (an on going battle with Telstra), Lynette and I watched two
Movies last week for a total of 1.37 GB’s out of 80 GB’s. Our iPhones have a
total of 30 GB’s each and hot spotting with our iPhones through our devices is
good, we find it hard to use the combined 60 GB’s before the end of the billing
cycle.

So I’ll go to "Entertainment Box” help and see if they have any suggestions for
me. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again both

Thank you Peter, sorry that I wasn’t clear enough. Lynette was working in Notes
and information that she had put into Notes had disappeared, without thinking I
suggested opening the rubbish to check on it’s contents, as soon as Lynette hit
the Bin icon everything was deleted.
The outcome is that Lynette had the same Notes duplicated on her iPad, so all
good. A lesson learnt, ask the question, do a search BEFORE touching the Bin!!!

Thank you Peter

Hi Guy’s

Just a query, with fingers crossed. My Wife accidentally put her “Notes” into
the ‘Bin’, I suggested that she open the Bin to see what was in there and
remove what she wanted, as soon as she hit the Bin everything was deleted,
so, is it at all possible to retrieve the rubbish or has it all gone
forever??

Thanks all

Re: Photos

2018-11-22 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Guy’s

The other option of course is to have a Photoshop type program and use layers.
I used to use Photoshop Elements (thanks to Ronnie) but now I use Affinity,
just a thought.

Thank you for your advice, tomorrow I will try the suggestions and see what I
can find. I have tried three different cords since the icon disappeared and
have had no results, so once I have followed your suggestions Ronni I will let
you know either way.

connected it to the Computer, the icon appeared on the desktop remained for a
few seconds then disappeared, I now have a hard drive that is on but I cannot
get it to open. Is there anyway that I can circumnavigate the input plug

Re: Data use.

2018-04-18 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hello fellow members.
I am having serious problems with Data use on my Computer( Telstra)I am using
1GB of Data approx’ every 10 15 minutes. It’s Telstra’s top up system when the
normal data has run out. But it can cost up to $110. in 2 Hours, with only the
Computer on, I have tried talking to Telstra ( India) and last night the
Phillipines, not to bad, but no idea on what’s burning our data, it’s like
we’re supplying the street with our wireless. Any ideas if it’s something we
may have open on the Computer? We are doing nothing different than at any other
time.
Thanks Guy’s just thought I’d ask the question. Next stop the Ombudsman.
Telstra Shops only handle Customer Plans and Sales, not Billing or Data
problems.
Kind Regards

2018-03-29 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hi Peter and the WAMUG group. Unfortunately due to my working hours and the
distance to travel I would be unable to assist.
Hopefully I can attend some of the meetings throughout this year. School
Holidays would be my best chance.
I wish you all the best in keeping WAMUG alive. I have been well rewarded by
receiving help when required, money well spent.
Kindest regards

Re: Reformatting.

Good Afternoon fellow Wamugger's.

I have a question in regards to reformatting an External drive: WD My Passport.

An e-mail from 1/12/17 in regards to this, answered by Daniel and Ronni,
mentioned that the reformatting can be done through Disk Utility.

I am going to reformat my External Drive, but in looking at the options, what
do I reformat it to?? Would I be correct in using Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?

I will be using the External Drive to load photo’s onto.

Good Morning to the Wamug Group.
I sent out an e-mail this morning but the message was too big!
Yesterday whilst using the Computer there was a Power outage, the Computer
shutdown. Upon restarting all appeared to be normal. I noticed that I would
only receive one or two e-mails compared to the iPhone / iPad. I couldn’t send
any e-mails. So I tried to sort out the problem following Help and the prompts.
I should have stopped right there!!
Going into server settings the whole page is blank. I know from memory ( and
that’s dangerous) that there should be a Port Number and an outgoing server
address?
Hoping someone can assist.
Thank you

Re: Remote Disc??

2017-11-23 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Hello fellow Wamuggers

I have a question as to what is a “Remote Disc”? When I open the Finder there
is a picture of a Disc, called Remote Disc, I tried to eject it, no go, I
looked at the info for the remote disc and it shows nothing.

Thank you

Thank you Ronni & Daniel my apologies.

I again tried by following your instructions Daniel, found myself in the same
predicament, UNTIL I slowly re-read the instructions, it said " Type your
password followed by the verification code shown on your other devices” simple
really. your password followed by the verification code shown on your other
devices. NOW all is clear.

Thanks Daniel, I now have Affinity downloaded again ( still don’t know where

Re: Apple I.D.

2017-09-05 Thread Anthony (Tony) Francis
Thank you Ronni

I understand the process of the notification Ronni and enjoy having it. My
question was that the e-mail box and the Password box are on the desktop, but
when I receive the numeric code there is no where to put it. There is no other
box. I am just trying to get to Purchased Apps, Products to hopefully download
Affinity Photo again. It seems as if I am stuck in a loop, e-mail, Password,
done, notified that someone is attempting to log in to my account, allow, up
comes the e-mail box, Password box, my iPhone chimes and there is the numeric
code, but no box on the desktop to put the number into??

Thanks Ronni

Thank you Philippe, I have been watching the videos but it's just putting it
into practice, a couple of times that I have hit a problem there is no one to
ask questions of. I much prefer to learn in a classroom either one on one or a
small group than by watching a video, although there are some very good videos
out there. I have ended up with a problem on the screen and no answers, not to
worry, I shall persevere Philippe. Thank you
