You are right as usual Ronni.
It is getting confusing with the old header still there.

Re: Strange redirection has blocked Gumtree access ?

2018-05-09 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi People,

A member of WAMUG advised me to clarify / correct what I said previously:

> You might like to clarify / correct what you said here Ronni.
> macOS 10.13.4 warns that 32 bit applications may not run properly in future
> versions of macOS.

So, to clarify my previous comments, perhaps I should have included:
“This app needs to be updated by its developer to improve compatibility,”
reads the warning users will see when they load a 32-bit app for the first time
in macOS High Sierra 10.13.4. This is the final version of macOS that will
allow 32-bit apps to be opened “without compromise.”

Apple says 32-bit apps will continue to work on your Mac for now, and that they
have “no adverse effects on your data or your computer.”
But High Sierra is the final version of macOS that will run those apps “without
compromise”.

“All modern Macs include powerful 64-bit processors, and macOS runs advanced
64-bit apps, which can access dramatically more memory and enable faster system
performance,” the document explains. “To ensure that the apps you purchase are
as advanced as the Mac you run them on, all future Mac software will eventually
be required to be 64-bit.”

But, as Apple mentions in the link below:
"The 64-bit transition for macOS and macOS apps is still underway, so final
transition dates have not yet been established.
But now is a good time to check with the software developer to see if 64-bit
versions of your favorite titles are available.”

<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436>>

That is why I prefer the advice I have given previously.
Better to be prepared, safer, and not sorry.

Cheers,
Ronni

2018-05-09 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Stephen,

You should really have started a new Subject relating to your current problem,
as the subject “Re: Strange redirection has blocked Gumtree access?” has been
solved.

iPhoto has to be the final version released iPhoto 9.6.1 (you cannot download
it anymore).
Also you need to do some Preparation before upgrading to High Sierra. I posted
details the other day to Alan’s post.
And always after installation is completed you need to run Software Update
again, as there is normally some updates to install.

And… The new version of macOS High Sierra 10.13 drops support of 32-bit apps
Get ready for that and check which of your apps are still 32-bit.

1. Go to Apple Menu
2. About This Mac
3. System Report
4. Software > Applications
In the final column you can see whether it’s a 64-bit application.
Any App that is NOT 64-bit will NOT work in High Sierra.

Cheers,
Ronni

I also had a notification to install the final release of iPhotos which

Have a search for “photo” and see if anything turns up (e.g. iPhoto,
Photos, Photos Library, iPhotos Library. (also look in the Trash).
Just incase any of them have been moved to different locations.
This may then help narrow it down for the reminder of the things.

I’d be a bit “cautious’ of re-installing an OS install there without
knowing which one it is (e.g. Mavericks was 10.9, Yosemite 10.10, El
Capitan 10.11, Sierra 10.12 and of course High Sierra 10.13).

Leopard, 10.7 was Lion, and 10.8 was Mountain Lion - and I didn’t even
have to go look that up,….lol).

If you are running 10.9.5, you could try the last patch Combo installer
again. This may get the iPhoto back (though sometimes if it’s not there it
 won’t “update” it).
You can get the full Combo update here -
 https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1760

But without seeing the machine, or a bit more info I’d be a bit cautious
of which steps to take, as obviously wouldn’t want to do anything to make
 it “worse”.

 Hope something there helps.

 Kind regards

Re: Strange redirection has blocked Gumtree access ?

2018-05-08 Thread Stephen Chape
OK !

Got iPhoto Library restored from Time Machine.
I have no idea where it went to originally.
But iPhoto is now working.

Her iMac has OS 10.9.5 installed at the moment.
But if I go to App Store it tells me that High Sierra was installed on 5 May
2018.
Seeks like a contradiction to me.
However there is an Updater sitting in her Applications Folder.

Looks like she has downloaded the High Sierra update, but then not installed it.
So now her iMac thinks it is running High Sierra, but is isn’t yet.

Now wondering if I should run the update that is sitting there ?
Her iMac is a Mid 2010 so I guess it should be OK (Apple says Late 2009 or
later).
Any thoughts please ?

Hi all.

She has Time Machine running because I set it up for her a while back.
So might try to find iPhoto Library on that this morning.

2018-05-08 Thread Alan Smith
Hi Stephen

I sent a reply in error from my iPad which is probably not relevant. My advice
is to do nothing for a few days.

On my recent macOS upgrade from Mavericks the Photos app did not automatically
install. It had been in the incompatible update list for “years” (with pages,
etc). It then became available to download for about two days after High
Sierra was installed, then it disappeared. These “missing” incompatible apps
can be downloaded - and will even possible return to the automatic “software
updates available" list in another few days.

I also had a notification to install the final release of iPhotos which give
the additional coding needed for migration to Photos.

Cheers
Alan

If you have an old OSX then iPhotos app will possibly be in an iWork ‘09
sub-folder which is in the applications folder.

Hi Stephen

The first thing I would do before doing anything else, is to make sure there is
a backup! The second thing I would do,…is make sure there is a backup!!
Have a search for “photo” and see if anything turns up (e.g. iPhoto, Photos,
Photos Library, iPhotos Library. (also look in the Trash).
Just incase any of them have been moved to different locations.
This may then help narrow it down for the reminder of the things.

I’d be a bit “cautious’ of re-installing an OS install there without knowing
which one it is (e.g. Mavericks was 10.9, Yosemite 10.10, El Capitan 10.11,
Sierra 10.12 and of course High Sierra 10.13).
(And for those playing along 10.0 was Cheetah, 10.1 was Puma , 10.2 Was Jaguar,
10.3 was Panther, 10.4 was Tiger, 10.5 was Leopard, 10.6 was Snow Leopard, 10.7
was Lion, and 10.8 was Mountain Lion - and I didn’t even have to go look that
up,….lol).

If you are running 10.9.5, you could try the last patch Combo installer again.
This may get the iPhoto back (though sometimes if it’s not there it won’t
“update” it).
You can get the full Combo update here - https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1760

But without seeing the machine, or a bit more info I’d be a bit cautious of
which steps to take, as obviously wouldn’t want to do anything to make it
“worse”.

Hope something there helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Hi Stephen & Peter,

Photos was introduced in OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 software update? What version of
OS X did she just upgrade to High Sierra?

Hi Walter and all members who are confused how to migrate/import to Photos from
iPhoto. Walter & Peter have not done it correctly.
Walter the first time you open Photos you do not import any photos from the
desktop, you are doing a transition/import of your complete iPhoto Library.

How to: Move your iPhoto or Aperture Library to Photos

As you have previously been using iPhoto or Aperture on your Mac and iPhoto
Library or Aperture Library is in the default location (User Home > Pictures
folder)

1. When you first clicked on Photos app and the Welcome Screen appears, you
should click on the Blue Box 'Get Started'.

2. If you were previously using iPhoto or Aperture, after clicking the 'Get
Started', it searches your system and detects your iPhoto and Aperture
libraries.
Select which Library you want to use with Photos from the list
Which (unless you changed the name of your iPhoto Library) will be 'iPhoto
Library'

3. Once you select the library, it presents the option to set up iCloud Photo
Library, (Apple's iCloud-based photo and video syncing and storage service.
This will allow you to sync all the Photos from your Mac and iOS device to each
of your other devices, keeping your edits and albums in sync.)
At this stage, especially if you are not sure about putting ALL your pictures
into iCloud Photo Library - I recommend you DON'T - (you can always set that up
later under Photo's Preferences from the menu bar; it's optional and never
required unless you want automatic, cloud-based syncing.

4. It then starts to Prepare your library to transition to Photos.
Your old photo libraries will stay on your Mac if you decide you want to use
iPhoto or Aperture (because it is more for Professional photographers & has
more powerful editing tools and built-in support for external editors).
However, if you make any changes in those libraries, they will NOT
automatically sync over to your new Photos Library As I mentioned in my
previous email below.

Most of the data from iPhoto and Aperture will transfer to the Photos app.
Faces is still the same. Also, if you were using star ratings, flags and color
labels in iPhoto & Aperture, they are still around in Photos, but they are now
Keywords and assigned to the photos. You'll notice your Events from your
previous photo library is organised alongside albums in the new Photos app
preserving your organisation.

Hopefully this email and my previous emails to the list will help clear any
confusion.

On my own Macs and my clients Macs the transition has gone very smoothly and
easy without any issues at all.

Cheers,
Ronni

Shouldn’t the upgrade have installed Photos and replaced iPhoto ?

Is this a viable suggestion also ?

Hi Stephen,

Bit of a tricky issue, especially when none of us are experiencing the problem.
I don’t know what OS or version of Safari your daughter is running.

Make sure that "private browsing” is turned off on Safari
https://support.apple.com/en-au/KM204854?cid=acs::applesearch
>

Safari 11.1
Check Safari Preferences:

Security - Web content: ✔Enable JavaScript is selected and Block pop-up
windows is NOT selected
Privacy - Cookies and website data: Block all cookies (is NOT selected)
Extensions - if AdBlock is installed - disable it to test for Gumtree. And
disable other extensions that could be causing the issue.
You can turn them back on after testing if required.

You definitely removed data related to the Gumtree website?
1. Choose Safari > Preferences.
2. Click the Privacy icon.
3. Click the ‘Manage Website Data’ button
4. Search for the name the website ‘gumtree’ whose data you want to remove.
5. In the results list, click the domain gumtree.com.au
that has data you want to remove.
6. Click Remove All.
When you're finished, click Done and close the preferences window.

Note: You will need all login details for your daughter’s access to her gumtree
account.

When finished Quit Safari - then Open Safari and test the gumtree.com.au

Cheers,
Ronni

But did you Clear the cache and remove cookies first?
Then Quit Safari after clearing the cache file & cookies for the gumtree

Hi Stephen,

What web browser is this happening on, Firefox or Safari?
Ask her to try access Gumtree & login on another web browser?

Clear the cache and remove cookies from the website that is causing the problem.
Your daughter would need to enter her login details again.

cdn.districtm.io could be associated with handling Gumtree transactions?

Strange redirection has blocked Gumtree access ?

2018-04-27 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks.

A couple of weeks ago my daughter had trouble accessing Gumtree.
Did not matter if she tried to log in or just tried as a browser.

Each time she tried she was re-directed to this website: cdn.districtm.io
I have no trouble using my iMac when logging in to Gumtree.
I have scanned her iMac using MalwareBytes but nothing comes up.

But now she tells me every time she goes to Gumtree she finishes up with a
blank white screen.
Even just using www.gumtree.com.au she gets the
same thing.

Any ideas please folks ?
I have tried Googling cdn.districtm.io but have not really learnt anything ?

Stephen Chape
