The men can, and frequently do, run away from home to escape financial responsibility for their children and wife and to escape from creditors. yet, mom hangs in there to provide food and a home for her children because she knows no one else will. I personally know of women that used to operate cranes, drive trucks, paint steel superstructures, etc, until the economy collapsed and no such jobs were available. These same women now bake pies and cakes to sell on the street, make clothes, repair shoes, make household tools out of bones, gather wood for fuel, make charcoal, clean rest rooms, etc, etc, etc... anything that will generate a ruble... and these mothers do without. They do without a phone, they do without traveling to see their parents for decades at a time, they do without butter, meat, and bread. But they are very proud of their children and their family and their home, even though they share a bathroom and kitchen with six other families in an apartment house. They do these things because they know no one will take care of their children. They know they cannot afford to be the least bit careless and experiment with drugs, or get drunk even on free booze some man may provide because those mothers know the consequences could be disastrous for their children and home. I have heard that alcoholism is rampant among men in FSU countries, but I have yet to hear that the same problem exist among FSU women. I submit it is because the women know no one will take care of them or their children if the mothers choose to behave irresponsibly, even for just a few hours. Here in the USA, fathers and mothers alike can behave irresponsibly, incur serious consequences (lose their job, become pregnant, car wreck, lose driving privileges, become partially brain dead, etc), because Uncle Sam will take care of them and their children, courtesy of the US taxpayers, even if their impairment was of their own choosing. I have read what you have written, and I disagree, while
I have a problem with people on welfare because they are too lazy to get off
their butts and do something for themselves, I don't believe that they should be
precluded from voting. They not only have that right as a citizen, but also that
responsibility, morally and legally. After all governments are predicated
on the idea that they are there to represent the people. All the people,
not just those who can afford them.
On the other hand the governments are there for the
people, and therefore should have programs for them to re-enter the workforce.
Even if that does include gardening, military service, or some form of community
program. Even if it means sending some back into the school system to be
re-educated in some form or another. And maybe that is where these issues should
be addressed, it seems there is a continuum of the downgrding of education
standards that seem to correlate with the increase in welfare costs
As for your comments regarding wheel chairs I found
them amusing, but you seem to enjoy provoking responses by the use of
disciminatory niches.
But, if I was in a wheel chair... I don't think I'd like to be on the 68th
floor either But I also wouldn't want to be told that I couldn't be
there!

As with any rule, there should be exceptions. However, I do not want to
create another "agency" to determine who should vote and who should not.

of elections and they are not allowed to vote. Whether they are on assistance
by choice or by unfair circumstances, they should not be allowed to vote.
Further, I like to think that voters determine (very indirectly) how money is
spent by the government. As crude as it sounds, if a person is forced on

make politicians "earn" the vote of the people that make the economy strong
instead of partially or completely ignoring them. I think that is the only

or get off as soon as possible. If they do not value their right to vote, they

policy and candidates. Now, if one is just liberal and not stupid, then that
person should be allowed to vote no matter what one says. Actions, after all,
are all that matters. What is spoken is worth nothing when compared to one's

It is just like if we ban the ownership of guns for US citizens, only the criminals will have guns. By and large, the US had done what it agrees to do; at least more so than any major country of the world with the possible exception of Britain. To maintain our credibility, Bush does not want to put us in position to compromise our integrity while protecting ourselves against biological weapons. ON global warming, the Kyoto treaty was based upon false assumptions to be politically correct. The treaty is a joke if it was supposed to be factual. On small arms, frankly, there is a place for small arms for all of us, civilian and military. Ask the Jews in Germany in the late 1930's. Note the following excerpt from an article written by pro-small arms treaty person, Rachel Stohl, written in September this year: John Bolton, (US) undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, set the tone for U.S. participation with his July 9 opening statement, which other participants described as undiplomatic and un-UN-like. In his remarks, Bolton laid out the U.S. position with stark clarity, emphasizing that the conference should tackle only the illicit transfer of military-style weapons and should not discuss firearms and non-military riflesthe very weapons that are responsible for the most death and devastation caused each year by small arms. Bolton further outlined redline issues that Washington viewed as unacceptable for inclusion in the conferences program of action. These included restricting civilian ownership of weapons, limiting the legal trade and manufacture of small arms, restricting small arms sales to nongovernmental entities, committing to begin discussions on legally binding agreements, holding a mandatory review conference, and promoting international advocacy by nongovernmental and international organizations.
