I received my TV Legends book yesterday and was delighted to indeed see our
beloved sheriff and deputy on the cover!

Viewed most of an old film today titled Second Time Around, that I had never
heard of, starring Debbie Reynolds and our own sheriff. He was much like his
early self on TAGS and Face in the Crowd and it was a charming movie that had a
happy ending.

In 1960, if he was 35, then he would've been 20 in 1945, just the right age for
WWII (the big one). But then we all know there were discrepancies, even in
depicting their high school graduation year!

I think modes of dress can vary from family to family within any community.
Being a military family, we lived in North Carolina, California and Tennessee
at various times in our youth. As the oldest of 7, I helped with my siblings'
wardrobes. My little brothers wore ties to church, school
All of the postings about child-rearing warmed my heart. Now we know why the
offspring of Mayberry fans are terrific! I don't have any of my own, but I too
subscribe to the theory of an occasional paddling when other avenues fail. I
see so much negative behaviour in public that when I
I know we're always lamenting the lack of Mayberry-quality depictions in the
media, but I find that things are looking up. On a recent episode of Reba, she
took a stand against pre-marital intimacy; I was so proud of her. In the film
All Decked Out, the final scene is of a lady singing O Holy
I watched The High and Mighty this afternoon and believe I spotted that bum
with the bad leg. He was checking Henry Bennett (the jinx) onto an airplane
flight and was barely recognizable. A couple other alumni were in this film
also.

I've read where Andy was allowed a lot of input on the show's scripts. I
believe Beasley was the name of some relatives of his; I remember seeing lots
of them in the Mt. Airy phone book.

I just returned from a trip where I drove thru a new neighborhood named after
our beloved hometown. Mayberry in Warner Robins, GA is comprised of
traditional, classic styled homes with porches and charming details. I didn't
see one exactly like the Taylor home but some similar. The two
If you're speaking of the lady who ran away from the Miracle Salve
gang, I believe she was shown moving a table along with another lady
at the beginning of the rose story. She also was riding with her
husband, a man with a real nice voice, in a convertible that stopped
in front of Frank
Well, I didn't get an answer about finding the past Digests anywhere, so would
someone be willing to just forward them to me? I did not receive issues 271
and 272. I'd be much obliged.

Barn once told Juanita he was taking her to the drive-in at Mt. Pilot;
remember, Mt. Pilot was bigger than Mayberry. The nearest one to Orlando is in
Lakeland, about an hour away but my beloved used to take me there occasionally.
There is a brand new one in my Daddy's tiny hometown, Ennis,
On one of those old movie channels this morning they had a music filler. The
opening number was that Dipsy Doodle ? song that Otis used to sing; then the
first introduced number was a rendition of Chinatown, evidently Aunt Bee's
favorite tune. Like I'm fond of saying, Mayberry - it's
I thank Jessica for sharing her birthday surprise! I know you had a
splendiferous time as that has been my experience every time we went to Mt.
Airy. My beloved surprised me the first time with a side trip there after his
family reunion in SC. I was thrilled too and cherish the memories your
I believe it might've been ice tea that Andy was bringing to Aunt Bee and Clara
on the porch after the flower show. As a homemaker I always paid particular
attention to the table settings and such. It occurred to me too that beverages
and side dishes were missing. I would think Helen
I was so proud and tickled to see a blurb at the top of our local newspaper's
Travel section, showing a photo of Ange and Barn and telling about the Taylor
Home Inn! Also, in the Belk's flyer, it showed Blue Willow dishes on sale
2-for-1; can't beat that! Mayberry, it's everywhere,
First off, I want to weigh in on the B/W vs. colour episodes: I miss Barney in
them very much but I cherish them for their goodness too; my all-time favorite
episode is a colour one: Only a Rose, in which one of the greatest examples
of true friendship and personal sacrifice is displayed.
You'll find in the re-released Sleeping Beauty some footage showing them using
Aunt Bee as a model for one of the fairies; it was very cute. I have noticed
many lapses in contunity over the years but I don't believe they had someone
assigned to this function back in those days like they do
What a treat to spot Miss Ellie in a ballet film this evening titled The
Unfinished Dance. She must've been about 6 and was adorable and a lovely
dancer. The story line was quite disturbing, wherein the other child ruined a
prima ballerina's career but it ended well and had many lovely scenes
Don't forget the one in the trip to Mexico episode where Elmo developed their
film. It looked like it might be in the old Barber Shop even though Emmett
took it over. Who knows?

I've been watching some of the early episodes on our local station lately and
pondered the following: what car was that that Barney drove to Andy's house
when he brought the sketch of the missing boy; why would Miss Rosemary be doing
any tailoring for Andy when Aunt Bee was already there (and
More truly heartfelt thanks are due to another Mayberry poster. Not only is
Tim Allen to be congratulated on some fine raisin' but sincere thanks for
sharing the good news to all of us! Many, many thanks from . . . . .\

A great big thank you to Randy Davis for his heartwarming message. You just
don't know how much it means to me to know that there are some fine teens out
there who watch TAGS and appreciate it and wish for decent fare on TV. It is
so easy to get discouraged with all the filth and grief we see
Spotted the newspaper publisher who tried to make Andy look bad and Erma Bishop
in a Betty Grable picture this weekend, The Shocking Miss Pilgrim (she became
one of the first female typists). Also saw Thelma Lou in a Bette Davis film
recently. Who knew our Mayberry friends had worked with
Just watched that sweet episode in which successful marriages are highlighted
via Emmett's and Martha's loving relationship. When he conveys that shy grin
right near the end after she tears up the closed sign, it reminded me of when I
saw him in an old film one time. He was quite the dashing
All this Idol talk makes me sad to have to realize that time did not allow Ange
and Barn to record their album. I inquired of Sparrow records some time ago
and was assured that both gentlemen had plans to get together and harmonize for
their many fans. Unless they put some sessions in the can
To get a good look at how someone, who was perhaps much like Sarah, handled
subject job, see the film Raggedy Man, a quiet production starring Cissy
Spacek. This is not one for the children due to the attempted rape but is
fairly decent in its presentation and is a meaningful story. It also
I watched a few moments of an old movie this past weekend that featured our
homemaker as the lady of the house that let rooms to boarders. She was very
much like her Mayberry persona. I didn't leave it on as it was about Jack the
Ripper and seemed rather dark but it was fun seeing Aunt Bee in
The only time my family availed themselves of milk deliveries was in southern
California when Daddy was overseas. With 7 children needing nutrition and Mama
not driving, we kept that man busy with milk, cheese, butter, eggs and fruit
punch! He left the order in a metal rack on the porch where
My perspective on TV watching decades ago is that since there were only 3
channels in most areas, its popularity was not like it is today. And more
parents back then were into child disciplinary attitudes that did not feel a
child had to be entertained every waking moment. Now that my beloved
What's even sillier about that deputy here who shot himself in the foot is that
he now wants to sue the officials who leaked the information cuz he says he's
being teased too much! IMO he's lucky he's not incarcerated for endangering
the children to whom he was demonstrating gun safety.

I too have a hard time watching the Class Reunion episode in which Thelma Lou
returns, newly married. It is so painful as I can put myself in Barney's place
and feel such a heartache. I don't mean to sound callous but I'm actually
tickled for him when Nettie fusses over him and makes him feel
Watched Pollyana, one of my all-time favorite films today and was tickled to
see Eleanora Poultice, Mary Grace, Parnell Rigsby and that visiting preacher
when Aunt Bee wore the wig. It was like a mini-Mayberrry reunion!

I don't think of Barney as exactly cheating on Thelma Lou since they were not
engaged or going steady with a ring or bracelet or anything of an official
nature. He was merely playing the field and perhaps she did too.

Flipping thru the channels, I happened upon an old movie with Frank Sinatra and
guess who was talking with him? Our own Mary Grace!

I too am distraught at our loss but rejoice that our beloved Deputy is in
Heaven and pain-free. I think the greatest tribute is that Andy visited him
shortly before his ascension; such a wonderful friendship is truly
inspirational and warms my heart.

My darling companion since my beloved went to heaven is my little minpin dog.
I named her Thelma Lou and she even occasionally responds to hearing her name
when Mayberry is on TV, which is often. Her playmate is my friend Laura's new
puppy, a mini schnauzer, named Miss Ellie. We get together
In watching a very old movie starring Humphrey Bogart yesterday, one of the
Dead End Kids seemed familiar and I wondered if it was Billy Halop; turned out
he was. Then I realized he was also the cab owner for Archie Bunker. Billy
played some bad guys in Mayberry, most notably (I think) the
