I hadn't considered Craigs list, but I'll keep it in mind in the future.
For now, I've decided to try AcuRite. That way, I'll at least find out how
the integrated sensor works for me (with a separate T/H sensor). The next
time I'm looking, I hope Weather Flow will be an option, but if not, I'll
I've had good luck twice (for two separate locations) buying a Davis VP2
off Craigslist for =< $ 300, and using the belfryboy cables.

Unfortunately, I don't have a suitable location for an all-in-one sensor
set. Tom's suggestion of an Acurite all-in-one with a separate outdoor t/h
sensor might work for me, though. I'm leaning toward trying that, for now.
I hand't heard of the belfryboy. Thanks for that bit of info!

That clears up most of my confusion. (Whatever remains is inherent and no
concern here.) Thanks!
I see the Wiki has articles on how to get data from the bridge, so I'll
consult that if I go this route. And this appears to be the best route for
me, for now. I'm not ready to spend twice my budget

Many thanks for the information, Tom. I'm confused, though. When you refer
to the bridge, do you mean the discontinued smarthub, or the current
product called Access? I think I've seen complaints that the access only
works with AcuRite's servers, not with third-party software like Weewx. I

Matthew is the real hardware expert around here, but from what I can tell,
the AcuRite seems to be the most popular of the "mid-market" weather
stations.
Get a 5-in-1, plus a console and a bridge, then connect the bridge to
WeeWX. Unfortunately it does not satisfy your requirements that the rain

Thanks, Vince. Weather Flow looks very promising, but I'm not sure I have
confidence in their ability to deliver all of the technology they promise,
especially the haptic rain gauge. Still, it's worth considering, especially
if no other good options are available in my price range. The API makes
