I may be basically retired from en.Wiki, but as a seasoned Wikimaniac, a
20-year resident of Thailand, and knowing Bangkok like the back of my hand, if
all goes well for 2021, I'll be there and more than willing to lend a helping
hand. I would welcome the opportunity to meet some more users for

My position is the same as that of One/Risker, except that I am a
retiree on a small budget.
I have self-financed all but one of my Wikipedia trips, but roughly $3,000
for a trip to Sweden for me is totally out of the question.
While I realize that opportunities need to be

I’ve been to a great many international conferences in my career - but
not so many since I retired. I can’t recall people wearing ‘Don’t touch
me’, ‘Don’t photo me’, ‘Don’t come near me’, ‘Don’t talk to me’ badges.
Do they do it nowadays already?

I have attended several Wikimanias.
I would have thought that with the Wikipedias being voluntary contributed
and managed projects, that the conference shoud have a sharp focus on
attendance and presentations by the communities.
However, this is not the case. Presentation time is,

I am also concerned about the same people repeatedly receiving
scholarships, and this is by no way of complaining that I did not receive
one.
As I said last year however, I believe it is also inappropriate to inform
applicants that they have been placed on a short list. Not
I seem to have missed it: could someone post the details for the live
streaming of all the presentations so that the people who were denied
scholarships or visa can follow the conference from home. Thanks.

Sound pretty much like it is for a Brit trying to get a visa for Australia
these days through their visa agency in Bangkok - and we once used to own the
place ;)
I’ve stopped visiting my relations there because of the hassle getting in.

I wish everyone a very successful conference.
I feel sorry for those whose visa applications were denied or could not be
processed by the Canadian government in a timely manner.
I am of course disappointed that I was not on the list. A lot of people will go
to a North America venue. It would

I think this another good argument for holding Wikimania in a country
like Thailand where I live, that has one of the most open travel doors in
the world. The nationals of most countries can arrive here without any
special documentation except of course a valid passport, and
That’s one of the reasons why I proposed Bangkok, Thailand, for 2019 - apart

Hi,
Do I understand from this that the Sumbission Committe has been composed?
From your earlier communication I would have thoght that candidates for
the committee would have been notified. Have I missed an email?

Salut Hélène,
Je pense que l'idée c'est que tout comme Wikipedia est l'encyclopédie que
n'importe qui peut éditer, tout le monde est bienvenu à Wikimania.

Bangkok is not only an excellent geo location for a conference, the cost of
living here in this ultra modern city is only one sixth of that of the Western
and Westernised world (that will raise a smile for the WMF), and it is, due to
Thailand's very old and very special 3-gender culture,
I am seriously interested in organising a Wikimania in Bangkok.
The Thai Wiki does not have a functional chapter, but there is a user group
chaired by a professor at Thailand’s major Medical College, and we have
collaborated on various projects.
With our combined knowledge we could get a team
