I'm using the latest binary snapshot from xfree86.org (4.2.99.4) and

problem. Funny, xvidix in mplayer (direct hardware access) doesn't work

Hi
I've just installed xf86 4.2.99.4 so I can have My Radeon 9000 working
modes other than the VESA ones, and after installing xf86 (..binaries
using Xinstall..) and now kdm no longer works (kde 3.05a) ... xdm works,
so at least I can use X, and it uses kde as the desktop... I'm just
stumped
I have an IBM i1200 Thinkpad type 1161-62u.
I ran XFree86 -configure and invoked the new config file but no luck. I'm
running FreeBSD 5.0 Release and here's my Error log:

4.2.1 does not support the i845G chip; support for that is provided in
the 4.
I just built 4.2.99.4 from CVS on my Radeon 7500 Mobility laptop.
Starting X yields a blank display and a locked keyboard. Attempting to kill
X or shutdown the laptop via ssh results in a complete system lockup.

Your Motherboard has the Intel 845 chipset, and XF86 (4.2.0) is identifying
it as Intel 815, and is failing to find a device... I guess the 845 is not
supported in such an old version of XF86...
Have yoou tried any of the newer (4.2.99.x) versions of XF86?

Yes, you need a later version of XF86 ...

Or you could try it with the X Vesa drivers, but you would be limited in
your screen resolution
