Re: [ Zionist-Info ] NPR and Jewish self-hatred]
Just thought I'd put in a word for Leftish Israelis, although I don't agree with them about the terrotories: There is so much hatred in Israel perpetrated by the religious fanatics who draw swastikas on Zionist signs and don't even fight in the army, living while studying Torah on the paycheck of some poor mechanic in Akron. On the taxes of hard-working Americans like you and me. Israel will lose more and more support should Gush Emumin and the other fanatics institute a theocracy. Leftish Zionists, like Amos Oz, don't have a racial superiority complex that is anti-humanist. (Oz) Religious jews can be pro-Israel, but the truth is that while wanna-be Zionists don't actuallly have to pick up arms to serve in the army, real Zionists are dying for something different than a racist theocracy that no Messiah would ever visit. (Oz.). Those on the religious right don't fight for what they believe in. Polina V. insists that the YZOA is a right-wing organization, and in that case, I'll join the real Zionists when I leave for the army there. Although I am NOT Jewish by Orthodox standards (although the Torah suggests that differently), I have a right to be a Zionist, like any old-school kibbutzer. I guess you'll cut me off your mailings, which is your loss, but I don't do right-wing stuff. I'm hawkish and passionately committed to the State of Israel, but I'm not about theocracies. That's what the Left is trying to say: Give us our land; preserve our peace and the right to live without Diaspora, but don't cram your fixations down my throat. Next time you criticize the left, think of Begin; think of Hertzl, think of any of the powerful Jewish kings of seasons past. They weren't doves, but they didn't advocate a special classist place for the holier-than-thou caste. -Kate Zangrilli -I still would be intersted in furthering the cause, even though P suggests that I'm too left-wing. I'm sure you remember all my efforts on many levels, and I am willing to put up with whatever racism you have in store for me...for the sake of the State of Israel. - Original Message - From: Maksim Tsvetovat [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 1:27 PM Subject: Re: [ Zionist-Info ] NPR and Jewish self-hatred] The self-hatred goes further. Look at the number of Jews at pro-Palestinian rallies. However, there's something worse. The International Solidarity Movement (www.palsolidarity.org) is headed by a Jew and is actively involved in assisting the terrorist groups by shuttling resources and helping them bring in people. I also ran into some information that they helped bring in one (or both) of the Mike's Place bombers. The main use of the group members is as mules since they are mainly westerners and can move around Israel and the territories much easier then anybody with a Palestinian license plate. I know a few local people involved in this organization, but have given up on any discussions with them as they consider creation of Israel evil and the best peaceful solution they can come up with is offering all Israelis US citizenship and then dissolving the state - and most of them openly support terrorism (a.k.a. armed struggle) as the only means of liberation of Palestine. In general, I don't support suppression of people's opinions or organizations based on their political views, but this particular group has gone from protests and shouting to active participation in terrorist activity and thus need to be stopped. mAx Zionist-Info is a service of ZOA. Re: [ Zionist-Info ] Fwd: JAT 30 May 2003: Petition to President Bush(fwd)
BSD SUBJ:Petition to President Bush At a 10 am press conference today in Manhattan, the Interdenominational Rabbinic Committee, coordinated by Amcha Never before have so many diverse congregational rabbis come together to sign a letter of consensus on such an important issue affecting Israel. TEXT OF PETITION To:President George W. Bush ... We support and commend your courageous leadership in the Middle East . 3) Road Map advancement must be based on performance, not on arbitrary timetables that encourage noncompliance. Adherence to these principles offers the best prospect of peace and hope and life that we all pray for daily. Personally, I disagree with this and will not sign the petition. The problem is the Road Map itself, not on what its advancement should be based on.The Road Map, even while adhering to the principles stated in the petition, does NOT offer the best prospect of peace and hope and life that I pray for daily.Let's say that the PA were, in fact, to fulfill all 3 of the stated principles. They would then be given part of Eretz Yisrael as their own state, and this is contrary to the Torah (principles and prophecies) that I do adhere to. When all is said and done, the fundamental principle that allows us to claim that land as ours is that G-d, through the Torah said it is solely ours. [ Zionist-Info ] Sobering Truths
Thanks to Leo for this one. Jacques - http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment-lerner032703.asp March 27, 2003 There Will Never be a Palestinian Democracy Facing reality. By Barbara Lerner Israel's Natan Sharansky is one of the intellectual godfathers of President Bush's new democracy first approach to the Palestinian question. Sharansky's influence is hard to miss. His influence on the views of his countrymen is another matter. Twenty-nine months of suicide bombings, shellings, and machine-gun attacks aimed at civilians have decimated the ranks of Israelis who still believe a Palestinian state could ever be anything other than the same old terror-warriors, with new and more lethal powers. When I interviewed Sharansky in Jerusalem on February 12, his political party had just lost two of its four seats in Israel's 120-member parliament, but his faith that democracy was the answer remained unshaken. Natan Sharansky has a big Russian soul, but he carries it on a small frame, and slumps in his seat. When I sat at his soon-to-be-vacated desk in Israel's Ministry of Housing and Construction, I had to scrunch down to be at eye-level with him. When I forgot, I would find myself looking instead into the eyes of his mentor, Andrei Sakharov, in a large photo above Sharansky's head. The man once known as Anatoly wants it that way. He believes the principles he and his fellow Soviet freedom fighters went to prison for are universal principles - as real and right in the Middle East as they were and are in what was once the Soviet Union. He also believes that in the terror war, as in the Cold War, appeasing tyrants can never bring lasting peace - only the spread of democracy can. And he believes, too, that democracy is for everyone, that neither Arabs nor Palestinians are exceptions to the rule. I offer up the Israeli everyman's objection at the outset: Polls show that 80 percent of Palestinians approve of suicide bombings. Anyone they elect will be a murdering thug. Of course, Sharansky explodes. It's primitive to think democracy is about elections. It's not. It's about freedom. Freedom is the key. First, he explains, you have to free people from the all-pervasive fear that is the sine qua non of all tyrannies. Give people the freedom to express themselves, to say what they really think, over time - without the fear that government goons will come and get them. That's the start of the democratization process. Elections are at the other end. They come last, after people have experienced what it's like to live free, because that - not elections - is what democracy is about. Once people know freedom, Sharansky argues, they vote to keep it. And because rulers in a democracy can't ignore what majorities vote for if they want to stay in office, they have powerful incentives to respect freedom at home and to pursue peace abroad. For tyrants, the situation is quite different. Freedom is their nemesis, and to negate it they need to demonize enemies, both at home and abroad - justifications for their brutal, suffocating control. It's a lovely theory - majestic in its universal reach, seductive in its sunny, egalitarian assumptions about human nature and culture. And, Sharansky insists, there is powerful, real-world evidence for it. Look at Russia and all the other countries that were once slave states of the Soviet Union, all more or less free and democratic now. The transformations in Germany and Japan are even more striking. A thousand years of Russian serfdom wasn't ideal preparation for democracy, Sharansky notes dryly. Nazi Germany and imperial Japan, too, were both democratized, and have remained democracies for half a century now. He's right, of course, but from the American point of view, there's a major difference between the Soviet Union on the one hand, and Germany and Japan on the other. We didn't have to occupy Russia or any part of the old Soviet Union to democratize it. In essence, we enfeebled Soviet dictators, and the people of those lands did the rest themselves. It wasn't like that in Germany and Japan. Those societies didn't crumble from within, under pressure. To democratize them we had to invade and conquer, settling for nothing less than unconditional surrender. Then, we tried their leaders as war criminals, and put their people under military occupation and kept them there for years - four in Germany, seven in Japan. We had to de-Nazify and de-imperialize them, to institute the rule of law ourselves, to reeducate the populace, and to remake their societies. It was certainly a success - a remarkable one - but it was a monumental undertaking, and the costs were enormous. Surely, I asked Sharansky, you don't think Palestinian suicide bombers and the population that worships them are like the Russians, Czechs, and Poles, able and eager to free themselves with only a little help from us? Surely you see that for these Arabs, as for the Germans and Japanese, nothing less than a

[ Zionist-Info ] Petition The Washington Post To Stop Anti-Israel Bias
Hi Folks, I encourage you to sign the petitiion on their website, and to send a letter to Bo Jones ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), the publisher of the Washington post. I have included the text from a sample letter that I will be sending at the very bottom of the email. As always, if you use it, don't forget to sign your name. Jacques -- EYEONTHEPOST.ORG KICKS OFF ITS LET BO KNOW!! CAMPAIGN WITH PETITION DRIVE Do you care about accuracy in reporting on the Mideast? If so, we need your help. Reporting in the Washington Post has long been overtly biased against Israel. This is evident in the imbalance in space, headlines and photos devoted to Palestinian suffering, harsh words and phrases applied to Israeli actions, suppression of events favorable to Israel, over-reliance on Palestinian reports that often are false, words implying doubt about Israeli statements, etc. See our document titled 110 Examples at http://www.eyeonthepost.org/petition/110examples.asp The result is that readers of The Post receive a false - even inverted - picture of what's happening. And remember, readers of The Washington Post include most members of Congress and officials in the U.S. State Department. We should also note that media bias has been cited as a cause of a recent increase in anti-Semitism among young Americans (Richard Morin in Outlook, Washington Post, 1/19/03). The Post's policy was shown clearly in a 1/3/03 editorial (A Brutal Routine... copy available upon request) that was called one of the most outrageous examples of blatant bias I have ever seen by a web site (www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog) that, ironically, was listed that same day in a Post column, Readers' Favorite Weblogs. While this editorial is an expression of The Post's opinion, rather than news reporting per se, it illustrates the biased, anti-Israel attitude of those who oversee the news. On Oct. 24, 2002, members of EyeOnThePost.Org met with the Publisher of the Washington Post, Bo Jones, and foreign editor David Hoffman. During this meeting, Mr. Jones asked, If there is a real problem, why hasn't there been more of an outcry? Perhaps it is because the community has grown accustomed to The Post's inaccurate and unfair reporting, and many feel it's hopeless to complain. But we don't think it's hopeless. Let's give him his OUTCRY. LET BO KNOW!! Our campaign consists of: * Petition calling on Mr. Jones to make his paper tell the truth and report fairly about Israel * Email/letter writing * Public forums with guest speakers * Rally at The Washington Post with presentation of our petition Here's what you can do now to help LET BO KNOW!!: 1. SIGN OUR PETITION, either online at http://www.eyeonthepost.org/petition or at local synagogues. This will take only a few minutes. 2. WRITE to Mr. Bo Jones, Publisher, The Washington Post, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, DC, 20071 (email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]). CC: Donald Graham, Chairman, same address (email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Please CC [EMAIL PROTECTED] with your letters (for data tabulation purposes only) Even if you say only Tell the truth about Israel, it will help. 3. PASS THIS MESSAGE ON. Please forward this request by email to as many people as you can. The Post's readership and influence is worldwide, so location shouldn't be a concern. Every person who writes or signs will be counted. If you know people of prominence - rabbis, organization leaders, etc. - ask them to help. Post it on any appropriate email listserves. Let's get the word out and deluge Bo Jones with thousands of signatures on our petition and with thousands of emails and letters. Let him hear our outcry. - Subject: Stop the anti-Israel bias Dear Mr. Jones, I write you to express a strong dissatisfaction with the anti-Israel bias evidenced in the reporting of the Washington Post. A review of Washington post publications over the past year yields clear and overwhelming examples of this bias: from the use of misleading and biased terminology to the citing of unreliable sources, to selective ommissions. Lest you think that such irresponsible journalism has no consequences, I should point out that it is exactly the above approach that has been explicitly espoused by Arab leaders. This approach is used as a new weapon, devised after the failure of military attacks, and is aimed at isolating Israel internationally by ...[replacing] the image of Israel as a weak nation surrounded by enemies by the image of an aggressive nation challenging world opinion (prominent Arab Palestinian strategist and former head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Al-Haytham Al-Ayubi in Future Arab Strategy in Light of the Fourth War; Shuun Filastiniyya (Beirut), October 1974). I suspect that aiding such a strategy is not the Washinton post's goal. The reporting in the Washington Post then, appears to be either uninformed by world history, or biased, both of which consititute

[ Zionist-Info ] French arming Iraq?
Safire: French Aiding Saddam New York Times columnist William Safire reveals that the French have been secretly aiding Iraq in its arms production of long-range missiles -- missiles that may be used to hit U.S. troops with biological and chemical agents. Saddam Hussein went to France, by way of China and Syria, and got the parts for his long-range ballistic missiles. No, not the ridiculous Al Samoud missiles, whose name sounds like a bad Americanization of a Muslim one (Do you know Al? Al Samoud?). We're talking about the missiles to which Saddam himself alluded when he said that destruction of the Al Samoud 2s was not of consequence. He said that Iraq had other ways to protect itself. Indeed it does. William Safire, writing in today's NY Times, tells us that Qilu Chemicals, a leading manufacturer of a clear liquid rubber named hydroxy terminated polybutadiene, known in the advanced-rocket industry as HTPB, sold the substance to a French middleman, CIS Paris, which Safire describes as a Parisian broker that is active in dealings of many kinds with Baghdad. Safire writes that the CIS director is familiar with the order but denies being the agent, so we know the order took place. But the U.N., which France is trying to use as a leash on the U.S., has to specifically approve such a transaction with Iraq. Well, France and Iraq can't be bothered with that, so they had the shipment sent from China to Syria, which has been said to be hiding Saddam's weapons, to be received by yet another company that acts for the Iraqi missile industry. The rocket fuel was then simply trucked across the very long border Syria shares with Iraq, and no one was the wiser. Until now. Safire continued: I'm also told that a contract was signed last April in Paris for five tons of 99% unsymmetric dimethylhydrazine, another advanced missile fuel, which is produced by France's Société Nationale des Poudre et Explosifs. In addition, Iraqi attempts to buy an oxidizer for solid propellant missiles, ammonium perchlorate, were successful, at least on paper. Both chemicals, like HTPB, require explicit approval by the U.N. Sanctions Committee before they can be sold to Iraq. Which they were not. Safire suggests that perhaps the U.N. inspectors, under whose watchful eyes all this has occurred, look at Iraq's El Sirat trading company and its affiliate, the Gudia Bureau, with respect to these dealings. But they won't. Hans Blix was put into power by the very nations that now oppose the U.S. at the U.N., and he is not about to bite the hand that feeds him. Meanwhile, France is actively arming Saddam and apparently trying to create a situation where Saddam will have the ability to pile up U.S. and British bodybags should we invade. Just why is France on the Security Council? The only country to which it provides security is apparently Iraq. Zionist-Info is a service of ZOA. Please feel free to use parts of my email. If you do, don't forget to personalize it with your own info. and comments. Jacques Subject: Aid to Israel Dear person, I am a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and former president of graduate student government. I am writing to express my full support for US aid to Israel in the form of $12 billion in aid and loan gaurantees. Israel is our only true ally in the Middle East, and is the only pro-American country to be found in that region of the world. We have a duty to support our friends...and to stop our enemies. There are inumberable reasons why the American people support Israel. There are equally many reasons why our government should continue to do so: - We support Israel because she is a democracy, in a region filled with tyrants and dictators. - We support Israel because women have full rights, in a region where women have none. - We support Israel because she teaches her children peace, in a region where children are taught to hate. - We support Israel because her people are free to follow whatever faith they choose, in a region where non-believers are converted or put to death. - We support Israel because she allows freedom of speech, in a region where criticism of authority is severely punished. - We support Israel because she metes out justice equally for all, in a region where strict Islamic laws mete out punishment with no recourse. - We support Israel because she educates her people, in a region where most of the population is kept illiterate. - We support Israel because she provides a high standard of living for all of her people: Jews, Christians, and Muslim-Arabs alike, in a region where populations are kept in abject poverty for the gains of the few. - We support Israel because she allows freedom of media, in a region where censorship and state control are the norm. - We support Israel because she protects the historic and religious legacy of all the world's people, in a region where ancient monuments like the millennium old buddhas are destroyed, and the religious sites of non-believers are desecrated. - We support Israel because she weeps for the deaths of innocents in the World Trade Center attack, in a region where most celebrate. - We support Israel because she mourns the loss of the space shuttle Columbia and her crew, in a region where most view it as G-d's retribution on America. - We support Israel because she has sued for peace, in a region where the standard response has been no negotiations, no peace, no Israel. - We support Israel because she continues to join America in standing for peace, freedom, liberty and equality. It is our duty to support those whose values and morals we share. As our representative, I urge you to do your utmost to ensure that America and Israel remain strong. Support the $12 billion in aid and loan gaurantees to Israel. Sincerely, you Zionist-Info is a service of ZOA. [ Zionist-Info ] Our emails DO make a difference
Hi Folks, Here is a response I received from Ira Glass of This American Life. I have also received a notice that the email sent to WYEP was forwarded to the General Manager, Programming Director, and Development Director. Our emails are effective. Jacques -- Forwarded message -- Date: Sun, 9 Mar 2003 19:17:54 -0600 From: Ira Glass [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jacques Katz [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Fwd: Withdrawal of support Dear Jacque Katz, Thanks for the email. I could quibble over facts (my research shows the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East put the number of deportees at 726,000; it was Israel which put the number near 500,000; the British said 810,000 in 1949) but I agree I should've mentioned the Jews who were expelled from Arab countries as part of our story. Also: although I tried to make clear that Israel was being attacked by five countries that wanted to destroy it, I could have emphasized that more forcefully. The reason that I didn't mention the Jews expelled from Arab countries is that in the four books I read and the dozen interviews I conducted for the story, it never came up. I didn't know about it. Those books confined themselves strictly to the story of what happened in Israel. My Israeli interviewees -- all of them, including the historians, fervently pro-Israel -- never mentioned it. I agree it changes the moral equation and - more to the point - explains why Israelis sort of shrug when asked about the expulsions of Arabs. Which is to say, we screwed up. I'm going to fix this in the version of the story on our website and for any future rebroadcasts. The upside to having non-experts take on subjects like this is that often non-experts can get at the basic questions most people want to hear about. The downside is something like what happened here. Though dozens of hours were spent on this story, trying to get it right, it wasn't quite right. I don't have an anti-Israel bias. If it sounds like I do, then that's a failure of craft on my part as a writer and producer. In the story you heard, I was curious to hear what the history was, and - more important - to hear what Israelis thought of these historians. Clearly we mucked it up if it came off the way you heard it. A few months ago when we did an hour-long show from Israel, the mission was the same: to get a sense of how Israelis (and Palestinians) were viewing their situation these days. Hopefully you think that in that hour we handled it more cleanly. Anyway, I respect your decision to withhold support or whatever you choose to do next. You should know that I agree with the criticism, appreciate the time you took to write, and plan to patch it up as well as can be at this point. Best regards, Ira Glass X-Authentication-Warning: condor.cnbc.cmu.edu: jakatz owned process doing -bs Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2003 14:35:07 -0500 (EST) From: Jacques Katz [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Withdrawal of support Dear This American Life, I have been a This American Life listener for many years now, and have even purchased a portable radio to allow me to listen when I'm not at home. I believe that the This American Life has been an entertaining and often insightful show. Unfortunately, I wished to inform you that as of today, I have made the decision to withdraw all monetary and other support from our local stations carrying your show, and will encourage others to do so as well. To make sure that there are no misunderstandings about this decision, let me state it clearly: This American Life, and Ira Glass in particular, have shown an ever increasing anti-Israel bias. The existence of the State of Israel and her place in the world directly affect the quality of my life. I will not knowingly support, directly or indirectly, any institution that seeks to undermine the State of Israel. The most recent episode 232, The 'Real' Story, was the final indignity. In purporting to shed light on the definitive real story, This American Life tells about the flight of ~700,000 Arabs from the land of Israel in the war of Israeli Independence. This historical fact is something with which few would argue (though officially, the UN sets the number at 500,000, and the Arab League claims there were 650,000). The problem is that This American Life chooses to ignore other essential pieces of history in favor of spinning an interesting, and heavily biased piece. - No mention is made of the ~700,000 Jews who were expelled from Arab lands in the same time period (Al-Nahur (Beirut), May 15, 1975; also, United States Committee for Refugees, 1981 world refugee survey, p. 27). - No mention is made that some ARAB leaders suggested even before the conflict that this would be a fair population exchange (Mojli Amin, Arab Defense Committe for Palestine, May 16, 1939). - No mention was made that such population exchanges have a historical preccedent, and have happened on a much
[ Zionist-Info ] anti-war against Iraq and anti-semitism
From WorldNetDaily: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=31394 -- College peace protest turns violent Anti-war demonstrators allegedly attack Jewish students Posted: March 7, 2003 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com A college protest against a U.S.-led war in Iraq turned violent when students with an American flag were attacked and two Jewish students were harassed by anti-war demonstrators, reports the National Post. According to the report, Miriam Levin, who is Jewish, was intimidated and roughed up by protesters when she tried to drive onto the campus of York University in Toronto. The protesters were picketing entrances to the campus and blocking traffic on Wednesday morning. I told the guy, 'Making me 20 minutes late for class isn't helping the people in Iraq,' and then he started calling me a terrorist and an occupier, Levin told the Post. She said she could not understand why the man was shouting anti-Semitic remarks at her until her friend, Hannah Wortsman, saw that she was wearing earrings with a Star of David design. According to Cim Nunn, spokesman for the university, protesters had agreed not to block traffic. York has as many as 35,000 cars passing through its property every day, he said. Three protesters were arrested but released without being charged. A group of protesters then attempted to occupy the university president's office, according to the report. Levin said she and Wortsman also were heading to the president's office to file a complaint when protesters again confronted her. Wortsman said student demonstrators surrounded them. The floor was completely full of protesters, who weren't letting us go anywhere, she said. Levin pulled out her camera to take photos of the scene and the group tried to take it away from her, she said, adding a security guard did nothing when she and Wortsman called for help. I asked why he didn't do anything and he said, 'Well you shouldn't have been there,' Levin said. It was only after she called 911 that she and her friend were able to escape. She said she would be pressing charges against one woman who allegedly assaulted her. Later, the protesters entered classes for a few minutes to talk to students, said Joel Duff of the Canadian Federation of Students told the paper. It was when the line passed a booth set up by the Young Zionist Partnership and the Canadian Alliance that a confrontation occurred. Students who ran the booth claim protesters shouted insults before charging them. Hundreds of people basically swarmed three people, said Paul Cooper, president of the Zionist group. He said only a few people were confrontational, but everyone else watched and did nothing to stop it. Duff said his group did not instigate the incident, saying it began with name-calling from the booth. We attempted to keep moving. Our message was we shouldn't be distracted, but the goal of those people who set up the booth was to disrupt and distract us today. Another Jewish student claims protesters singled him out because of his faith. Said Yaakou Rath, campus president of the Canadian Alliance: They chose to attack me, and I'm identifiably Jewish, but they didn't attack Paul [Cooper], who's not, and that's scary. He said the group also stole the booth's U.S. flag and tried to set it on fire. Zionist-Info is a service of ZOA. Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message archive is
[ Zionist-Info ] Our peace partners
Hi Folks, If anyone can get ahold of this videotape, please let me know. Thanks to Shmuel for this update. Jacques - -- Forwarded Message -- Date: Sunday, February 23, 2003 9:48 AM +0200 From: Women in Green [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Our Peace Partners Our Peace Partners I do not always watch the 8 PM news here on TV which is the hour of the national news here. Tonight, since it's freezing outside with lots of rain, thank G-d, I was curious to see how our Israeli TV reporters were explaining the delays of George W.'s war due to the extorting Turkey leadership. The lead story was the most important one that I have seen or that most of you out there have not yet heard through the networks in the Diaspora. The military correspondent, Ronny Daniel, was inside a bulletproof command car being driven by the Sgan Aluf(Colonel) M. inside the Casbah of Schechem (Nablus). We watched as the IDF Golani unit 202 comprised of paratroopers were going from house to house inside the 700 year old Casbah of Schechem Since last Passover's massacre in Netanya on Seder night, our IDF has been in and out of Schechem unable to finish the 'job,' because Arik Sharon knowingly allowed his coalition partner, the former Defenseless Minister Ben Eliezer of Labor to run for its leadership while running down our IDF. Tonight, we sat back with our mouths wide open and frozen in anger and disbelief. As Ronny Daniel, Colonel M. and soldiers entered an Arab's house in Schechem, the cameras were filming the three floor 'find' of the IDF Golani heroes today. The 'family' of Arab men, women, and children were escorted out of this house before the IDF engineering unit began to cut apart the tiles of the kitchen floor. The area below the kitchen was filled with hundreds of bags of nails, bolts, and screws in quantities that were apparently more than ACE Hardware's supply in your local mall! The heating and soldering machines were assembled with oil, gas, and combustible materials for the next tens of bus bombs being assembled. On the second floor of this 'residential house of militants, activists, and residents' (sic), the cameras followed the explaining Colonel M. and our correspondent, Ronny, and we watched as more of our IDF soldiers were removing the walls of the 'kids' bedrooms' to find hand grenades, guns that the Arabs had received and stored. On the 3rd floor of this house, the camera crew captured the bomb belts, their pieces and parts with all sizes, colors, and widths of belts, again more choices than your local belt rack in Nordstrom! As the officer and soldiers went to the next house in search, the soldier began to shout excitedly on his find in this house. Here we watched again and saw dynamite sticks and fuses inside kids' school bags which our kids carry with school books. There must have been dozens of assembled school bags with bombs inside. Cellular phones and clocks were discovered which are the alleged methods of detonation by remote control of some of the Arabs' terror. The Colonel M. stated to the correspondent inside Schechem's Casbah that the IDF is now here for months to clean up, capture, destroy as much of these terror tools as possible. The questions we had comprised of why did we leave, enter, leave, enter, and now have to come back again in the past months, year? I turned off the TV as I knew that this rare habit of watching the news was dangerous to my health, but tonight's coverage of why we and our soldiers have to go house to house to search and destroy rather than utilize our airforce in one night will not be covered by CNN, BBC, or Reuters antisemite club groups. Instead we will be faced with possible IDF injuries or G-d forbid deaths in the coming weeks of this long delayed action by the IDF under Shaul Mofaz, a Defense Minister who also knows what the word Offense means, because we Jews cannot do that which others can do in nonstop aerial bombing (remember Afghanistan last year?). [ Zionist-Info ] Opportunity: National Jewish Leadship Conference in Pittsburgh
Hi Folks, This is from Sarah Gross, who also wanted me to let you know about the Jewish-Israeli film festival. The film festival info can be found at www.pjiff.net. The opening (2/27), which includes dessert and kosher wine, will be $15 for students. Jacques -- National Jewish Leadership Conference Every year around this time you get information from the UJF about a national leadership conference which takes place somewhere around the country for 25-45 year olds. This year we are happy to be able to invite you to stay home. There's still a conference with close to 1,000 young Jewish adults happening. But it's happening here - in Pittsburgh. That's right, we competed against New York and Atlanta to host the conference and won out over them. We will be hosting the UJC National Young Leadership Eastern Conference from March 21-23, 2003. Communities east of the Mississippi will be joining us for a weekend of learning and fun. We would love to have you join us for the weekend. There will be no better way to show off our city and our Jewish community than to have hundreds of young Pittsburghers take part in what is annually one of the Jewish communities finest conferences. In order to encourage participation, the UJF is offering a subsidy for any Pittsburgher who attends the conference. We will be offering a $145 per person subsidy which should make it much easier for folks to join us. In return for the subsidy, we require each individual to make a minimum $100 commitment to the 2003 Annual Community Campaign and attend an agency visit. (The UJF supports nine beneficiary social service agencies and schools in the Pittsburgh area. We will set up several opportunities to visit a number of these agencies where you will be able to find out about the populations they serve, the work they do, and how you can volunteer with them, should you choose. These visits will be set up for February and March and there will be several to choose from.) Registration for the conference is available on-line through our website - www.ujf.net. Click on the Regional Conference button to obtain information on the conference hotel (the Omni William Penn) and to register and pay. A subsidy code is necessary in order to receive the discounted registration price. Please be aware that the subsidy can only be given at the initial time of registration and that by entering the subsidy code you are agreeing to both the minimum commitment and the agency visit. Pittsburgh's subsidy code is 01202. If you would like more information or have questions, you can either contact Brian Herstig (412.992.5231 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]) or Marla Werner (412.992.5232 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]) at the UJF. We will be setting up some small group meetings after the first of the year for individuals who would like additional details and information. If you would like to attend one of these meetings, which will occur throughout the city, please let Brian know. Zionist-Info is a service of ZOA.
