Certainly I "crave" salt, but that is because my sodiium is always low, and I excrete most of the large amount of salt I take in in my urine. I can't hold onto sodium. I think this perhaps explains why I feel so much worse when I've tried taking magnesium or potassium. They unbalance my already low sodium even more. Adrenal insufficiency, or adrenal fatigue, seems to be becoming more and more common, though hardly any MDs or other medical practitioners believe it exists. But certainly I do have it, my cortisol levels are extremely low, and I may also be low in aldosterone as well as cortisol. Aldosterone is the adrenal hormone that controls sodium and mineral balance. If I was able to, I'd get aldosterone and renin tested, perhaps I need supplemental aldosterone (fludrocortisone). Whatever, on the thyroid and adrenal lists I have joined, many many people are very low sodium, and many of those are "salt wasters" like me, and are low sodium though they take in copious amounts of salt. Therefore, when you see someone "addicted" to salt, consider they may simply be giving their body what their body is telling them it needs. From my own personal experience, I am very leery of supplementing minerals when sodium is low. I have problems even eating minimal amounts of high potassium foods.

I was like Faith for decades, only taking in minor amounts of salt. I had problems eating some prepared foods because to me they were too salty.

A few months back I changed and started adding more salt (sea salt) on things. Still not like other people I've seen addicted to salt but an improvement over how I was.
