It's not so hard.  Just start paying attention.  When you eat something, see
how you react.  How do you feel after a meal?  Sluggish, gassy, etc?  Try to
single out the food that does this.  Note when you are hungry during the day
 and what satisfies that.  Note when you get tired during the day--is it the
same time every day, different time due to what type of work you are doing? 
Which exercise feels best--running, walking, stretching, lifting something? 
Pay attention to when your mind feels sharpest--and why.  Start talking to
your body.  Yep--talking to it.  Ask it what it wants to eat.  What
supplements does it want to take.  

It takes a while to become attuned, but it is certainly not impossible.
