  Hi Deborah,

I know the 4 litre 'milk jug' containers you are talking about. They
are a white translucent plastic, and I used them for many years.

Many people mentioned the plastic taste and ways to try to get rid
  of it.

The dw in PET containers is fairly new, and is sold in grocery
stores in the neighborhood. It is made by Canadian Springs in Eau
Claire, Quebec. Now that I have used it, I won't go back to HDPE.

I wrote them and asked if there was any chance they could have
chloramines in the water, and they said no, they get it directly
from local springs in the area. Which is good, since chlormaines are
ver difficult to detect and remove from water, and can have
significant effects in processes using electrolysis. Thanks to sol
for mentioning chloramines here many years ago.

  Regards,

  Mike M.
