When you say 'network to the internet' you mean that it will be used to
reach the border gateway, not that you are trying to have 192.168.1.0 be
on the internet?

Your setup appears more complex than I think I would have done, not
knowing what issues you are trying to solve.

I have a border GW and firewall, inside it I have a subnet which hosts
all actual and virtual hosts. In other words my VMs are all on the same
subnet so they are easily accessible. The SmartOS has one IP and all the
virtual machines is one IP each down from it.

No additional subnets to route and manage.

Of course you may want to do some work inside a subnet that should not
be reachable or able to escape from it. Or too many hosts to fit...
