Can you start it on the old machine? Or boot from a backup of it?

From my iPhone

Dear Tony

Thank you for this very detailed reply. I can see the logic in it all. The trouble is that I cannot find my original discs. I imported the program from my old machine using migration assistant. But I'd had to put a trial version of iwork on my new MBP because I needed it desperately for a lecture last week (the MBP arrived at 10.15 am on the day I was giving the lecture, having to leave home at 12.00, so there was no possibility of a migration).

So I had a trial version, which I junked. And now I have my old version moved into the new machine. But clearly with legacy from the trial version.

The problem is that I can't find the dvds for iwork 09. I can find all the earlier versions, of course!

The solution below seems to work if you have the dvds.

Best, Ranulph

Any more ideas? It would be nice if there was a place you could contact Apple about registered copies of software, for instance. I'd be there!

Well, I would first go the Apple web site support forum pages to see if there are others with the same problem. Turns out that there are, and here's one entry from Dec 19th 2009;

I've called apple and got it sorted, for those who are having the same problem, here's what to do if you had a trial version. 1) got to application folder and drag iWork '09 to trash and remove icons from dock.
2) Go to finder then Macintosh HD.
3) Go to Library
4) Go to 'Application Support'
5) Drag the folder named 'iWork '09' to trash and got back to Library. 6) Go to a folder named 'Preferences' and drag anything with iWork in it to Trash.
7) Close all windows and insert iWork instal disc and install iWork.
8) open an iWork application and a screen will come up for you to register.

iWork '09 doesn't require a serial number but if you have installed the trial version, especially if you've had an earlier version of iWork which did require a serial number, you get a request for serial number input.

HTH

Regards,

Tony
