I think this was covered some while ago but cannot remember the solution.

My black MacBook wakes from sleep with the dreaded 'screen of death'.....grey screen overlaid by a message in multiple languages stating 'you need to hold down the power key to restart' etc.

After a couple of these, sometimes get back to my desktop and a working machine. other times takes three or four attempts.

I have tried resetting the PRAM, and the SMC, switched batteries (I have a spare) and only recently replaced the hard drive.

Time Machine backups available but any clues before I attempt a restore?
