Hi Brian It's generally a bad idea to open images directly from within the iPhoto Library. If you want to edit an image with an external editor, such as Photoshop, configure it in the preferences for iPhoto then right click on the image (again in iPhoto) and select "Edit with External Editor".
If iPhoto loses track of where images are then your library will start to corrupt.
