After few projects in Houdini I'm starting to warm towards it. The passes&takes are ok and mantra is quite capable. Theres a lot of things that can be done with frame buffers and having very many passes is quite rare for me. I would be interested to test out Redshif/Octane there but they are still in beta afaik.
With the attribute visualizers + vop&vex I can work quite similar style as in ICE. Naturally Houdini simulation solvers are really good and that really makes a difference.
