I admit I have never seen a corridor only sprinkler system. I was wondering how
well these systems work in practice. Do they in fact improve the tenability of
the hallway?

It all depends on how the AE has classified the building from an occupancy
standpoint. If he calls it Group "B" (business) occupancy then the code will
allow it to go unsprinkled if it meets certain other criteria like egress
distances, fire alarm system, height above exit to
grade, etc.... If that be the case then he could think that by
providing a partial system that he's doing something "above and beyond".

OK, got a architect and engineer that claim that they can protect the corridors
only on a mini-storage warehouse.
:

The IBC states that if the building has sprinklers but does not say sprinklered
throughout - has anyone else seen/done this?

Thank you,
