But truly with the sprinkler being semi-recessed the pipe is not penetrating
the wall the sprinkler and escutcheon are. If the cpvc is considered
pentrating the wall, could you not transition to steel before the
penetration?

Subject: RE: Rating of the sprinkler escutcheon

I believe CPVC is considered a combustible penetration when running through
a rated assembly and therefore would require a listed firestop assembly.
Metal escutcheons provide no rating; the IBC permits only an escutcheon to
cover the annular space of a sprinkler penetration when the pipe is
noncombustible, i.e., steel, copper, conduit, etc.

Subject: Rating of the sprinkler escutcheon

Our situations - we have a hotel designed to 13R that requires our cpvc
piping to be run through a fire rated wall between two units with 4.0K
residential semi-recessed sidewall heads spraying into both units. The other
is the extended coverage 8.0K semi-recessed sprinkler spraying into the
stairwell (also fed by cpvc from the corridor). The question being asked by
the fire marshall - What is the fire rating of the escutcheons?
