The statement above as written is correct but could lead to
confusion, because there are MachV cards which do not fall into the
category described. So, all 300+ MHz 604e cards are Mach Vs, but
not all Mach Vs are 300+ MHz.

All the PPC604e cards which shipped in *Apple* machines at 250 MHz or
faster used the PPC604ev, AKA Mach V. In practice, this was all of
and only the cards shipped in the PowerMac 8600 Enhanced and PM 9600
Enhanced, both of which are also known as (AKA) Kansas machines.

To further confuse things, there were earlier versions of both the
8600 and 9600 which were non-Kansas. So there was an 8600 and then
the 8600 Enhanced. And there was a 9600 and then the 9600 Enhanced.
But folks typically leave off the "enhanced" which means that you
can't be too sure what someone has when they say 8600 or 9600.

The Enhanced versions were the ones called Kansas, which shipped with
Mach V CPU cards. All the Kansas cards ran at speeds of 250 MHz or
faster (300, 350).

Now you may be thinking, "Aha, it's easy. If I see a CPU card with a
604e and it is 250 MHz or faster it is a Mach V." But that's not
correct. It only applies to the Apple cards.

Umax, Power Computing, and some of the third party upgrade makers
shipped 250 MHz 604e cards which are not Mach V cards. Hence, the
qualification that it was only Apple cards at 250 MHz or higher is
necessary.
