Assuming a standard issue Matsushita CD reader, does that include the following: 1) check that all cables are firmly connected and free of corrosion nor kinks. 2) check the jumpers on the CD reader; make sure it's set to a unique number on the SCSI bus, that parity is enabled, and sector size is disabled [ie no jumper on those latter pins], and that the bus is properly terminated: the last device on the chain and _only_ that device needs to have termination--not to be confused with term power--enabled 3) try booting from the HD first--you didn't say whether this was possible, nor which version of Mac OS is installed on it, which opens up a whole other line of troubleshooting--and selecting a known bootable CD-ROM from the 'Startup' control panel > I have an os9, os7.5.3, and yellowdog linux cds, all > should be bootable, right? Maybe. Neither OS 9 nor YDL will work from a locked disk with 32 MB RAM available. OS 9 can boot with 32 MB RAM and virtual memory enabled, kind of, sort of. If you can post to this list, you can do the research as to what YDL requires ;-) System 7.5.3 should be happy as a clam with 32 MB to play with; is this an Apple disc or a UMAX disc? > Also, my keyboard > lights don't flash, and my mouse doesn't work. I'm thinking that my ADB > ports are fried. The only light that should work under Mac OS is the 'capslock' light; the others work only with DOS and Windows [with VPC, of course] BeOS, and, I suppose since I haven't tried it, under Linux. A fried ADB port is highly unlikely with this machine; that was a known issue with certain NuBus PowerMacs--6x00 series and the HindenBook, errr, PB 5300 series, IIRC. More likely is a bad connector, bent pin, or cable from the keyboard, some things which are infuriatingly common. So assuming the ADB connections are physically in order: 4) try holding down the 'C' key at startup until you see the 'Happy Mac' 5) try holding down the apple-option-shift-delete keys simultaneously at startup until you see the 'Happy Mac' HTH, paul -- Paul F.
