I installed a fan down there several months ago as I was concerned about
heat - running a Newertech G4 with all drive bays full and five of the six
PCI slots full! 

I seem to recall testing before and after with Gauge Pro and the extra fan
seemed to cool it down 3-5 degrees Farenheit (from 85 to 80 on average). The
extra noise was negligible as the PS fan and hard drive noise tend to mask
it anyway. Even this small amount of extra cooling should increase the
longevity factor of most components.
