Welcome to the world of Supermacs.
You have a S900.
But mine says H6D0F....

As for "the power supply makes a rather
annoying very high pitched buzzing/whining sound.",
S900 power supply fan noise can be maddening and has been a frequent topic
here.
Maybe your side panel is vibrating and causing the buzzing ?
Press your hand on the side panel and see what happens.

Re - It connects just fine to the internet (using a router) through
the AAUI and slow RJ-45 jack, but the lower RJ-45 jack, on the SCSI card,
what I have come to believe is the faster one, does nothing. Do I need to
install some drivers or something to get fast Ethernet?

I'm not sure what you mean. - RJ-45 jack on a SCSI card ?
Perhaps this is an add-on Ethernet PCI card that is faster then the on-board
10baseT ?
For internet connections, your stock 10baseT ethernet is sufficient.
But if you want faster networking, you need to find out first what you have in
the lower slot.
It may turn out to be a 100baseT card. Other folks will be able to help you on
that one.
