If you follow the archives you'll find more than one poster who reverted back to the original CPU and brought back a S900, which then accepted all the upgrades over again. Electronic quirks can be tough to fix, tougher to explain why it happened. Paul C
Yet another point I forgot to address (Paul managed to get a lot of content into his two sentences) :-)...
When adding upgrades, you will be less prone to the dead machine syndrone if you add them one at a time. I believe that the Open Firmware responsible for updating the machine's configuration is more reliable when it only needs to change settings for one piece of hardware at a time.
In practice, I've found that configurations that gave me a dead machine, worked fine if I went back to basic configuration and then added the upgrades one at a time, rebooting after each addition.
