Hi, How is your computer set up and what were you doing when the black screen problem appeared? Over the years I have experienced the black screen syndrome many times and will tell you my experiences. Many people have told me the problem is the logic board, the power supply, the hard drive the video card etc. etc. However, in every case, the problem has been fixed by adjustments with the CUDA switch, the PRAM or the CPU card in combination or separately unless the problem occurred with a failed OS X installation. In this case, I have found that the hard drive that contains the OS X installation program may not perform an OS 9.1 boot. If this hard drive is your startup drive it may become impossible to bypass the drive in the usual way (option-command-shift-delete) and boot from another drive. You can get around this by disconnecting the power to this drive and starting up from another internal or external drive. In other cases, it has been my observation that the black screen problem is different depending upon if you hear a startup chime or not. If you hear a startup chime the problem is usually fixed by Zapping the PRAM. When you do this I have found that you must hold the keys down until you hear the startup chimes several times. This can take several minutes and seems like an eternity. If you have the black screen and no chimes this is usually fixed by removing the CPU card, pressing the CUDA switch (hold it down a long time) and putting the card back in. In the case of my s900, you must be very careful to make sure the card is firmly seated in its slot. It often appears to be, but really is not. There is a great tendency for that part of the card nearest the front of the computer not to seat properly.
