I am not a beta tester, so blissfully unaffected by this.
Right, and the fact that your are not a beta tester explains that you
don't understand the reasoning.
However, from the perspective of an impartial outsider, a
decision by the Firefox team to disable an auto-update from
"last beta" to "release" would seem mildly insane, and for
a Seamonkey developer to then follow suit would seem terminally so !
The purpose of the beta channel is to have beta testers. Justin just
decided that FF's decision to skip the upgrade to the stable release was
worth following, i.e. people will upgrade directly from one beta to the
next, with a small delay compared to the stable release update. There is
nothing wrong about that if you think about it. I was confused shortly,
too, but I had the advantage of knowing that 2.5b1 is close since I
already prepared the website for it.
That said, your above statement shows that you are not really impartial
but in fact biased, not really thinking about the circumstances that
differ from your own situation. Too bad, chance missed.
Greetings,
Jens
