Hi, Dave,
YOu can get rid of a fair amount of that constant disk-swapping problem by
increasing the RAM on that Pentium 100 system from 16MB to 32MB, and 64MB
would be even better. As to whether or not Windows 3.11 would be better, or
even as good as Windows 95, it all depends on what you want to do, and
whether you can get Windows 3.X programs that will do the things you want,
as well as the Windows 95 apps do the same jobs. If you run Windows 95, you
don't need a separate DOS partition. You can run all your favorite DOS apps
from the DOS that is in the c:\command directory of Windows 95. After all,
Windows 95 is still a graphical shell that runs on top of DOS. It is just
designed to appear to wrap around the DOS and cover it up so you will
hopefully be thought by MicroSoft to be stupid enough to believe that
Windows has finally replaced DOS, and that DOS is dead.
If you double that RAM at least twice in that system, you might be surprised
at how much faster and better Windows 95 will run on that system.
