Do it from outside Windows then - get to to the cleanest DOS prompt you can,
set up the COM prot parameters and send the setup string.  The software
won't know anything's happened, and the modem will be quite happy to assume
that the PC knows how it's set up.  Unless your software is actually turning
off CID in the existing init string, it'll remain set.
