The funny thing is that anyone attached to a Local-Area Network has a
globally unique address anyhow. Software could just as easily lock onto your
Ethernet MAC address as a CPU serial number, and the scheme would work
regardless of CPU type. You can override the address, but that introduces a
whole new set of issues. I've noticed that many new security schemes (not
copy protection) are using the network adapter as the 'key'.
