I was thinking the same thing - it seems like an
awfully short shed, and then it's un-clamping and
readjusting to advance the warp. 

I use an inkle loom, and make a circular warp.  That
way I just roll it forward when it's time to advance. 
I have one that a friend in Houston made for me; it's
extra-big, which accommodates my own larger frame.  It
also gives me a long shed space, so that when I break
my tablets into packs (sometimes as many as three or
four), I still have space to weave.
