Boy do I ever know about the problem you are having.
Unfortunately, I don't know if my imperfect solutions will be much of a help.
On the twist photo pages, there's a picture of a loom setup where I had 177 cards. I used multiple tie points and a warp spreader to try and provide good tension, but I had problems with tension in individual section. Currently, I have a loom warped up with 360+ cards, and this time, I set up individual warp spreaders attached with elastic bands to a cross piece, so that each section can have adjustable tension. This has been relatively successful, but it may not be practical on the scale of your piece. (I'm weaving in 2/8 cotton, and the piece is over 50 cm in width) As for the packing on the sides - again, same problem with me. My only recommendation is to place extra cards in the central portion of the warp spreader, and fewer to the outside, but it would take some trial and error to get the spacing appropriate.

My main problem right now is that since I have no time to weave, when I do get around to it, I'm more willing to accept errors. Or rather I'm embracing my heritage and introducing errors on purpose so as to avoid perfection (in the old mennonite quilt tradition).

Hopefully this summer I'll get back to the loom.
(I've an apprentice still waiting for her belt)

Howdy y'all!

I'm working on a piece that is wider (that is, more
tablets) than any I've worked with before - 75 tablets
across. It's Size A silk sewing thread, so the actual
piece is only about 1 1/4" across - not falling off
the loom or anything, and the warp tension is pretty
regular.

My problem is, I'm having tension issues side to side.
It's relatively minor, but it's bugging me. The
edges are packing tighter than the middle. I usually
can redistribute this kind of thing by pinching and
pulling the threads to spread them, but it doesn't
seem to be working. I'm already using a warp spreader,
but can't spread it too wide or the warp will fall off
the loom.

Here are photos of the work in progress, and a little
more detail on the project:

Any thoughts are welcome!
