Hi Michael,

The center threads need more tension than the edge threads most likely due to the spreader. How wide does the spreader make the warp and where is the spreader? I think it should be as far from the tablets as you can get it.

I looked at the photos, I can understand that the irregularity is bothering you but the weaving sure looks beautiful to me. Please do a sample of your proposed overdyeing...I am probably wrong here, but I am concerned that the gold dye might not look as good over the black as you hope. I don't have a huge amount of experience with dyeing but I am wondering if the black silk could accept the dye in such a way as to cast a color that you might not like. I do know from working with cotton that usually the black doesn't reflect the over-dye at all.

Please let us know when the finished bag is pictured on your blog.

Janis

Howdy y'all!

I'm working on a piece that is wider (that is, more
tablets) than any I've worked with before - 75 tablets
across. It's Size A silk sewing thread, so the actual
piece is only about 1 1/4" across - not falling off
the loom or anything, and the warp tension is pretty
regular.

My problem is, I'm having tension issues side to side.
It's relatively minor, but it's bugging me. The
edges are packing tighter than the middle. I usually
can redistribute this kind of thing by pinching and
pulling the threads to spread them, but it doesn't
seem to be working. I'm already using a warp spreader,
but can't spread it too wide or the warp will fall off
the loom.

Here are photos of the work in progress, and a little
more detail on the project:

Any thoughts are welcome!

Michael
