Many of our machines have screens, and most of our manuals are translated into multiple languages. To get around the problem of localizing screens, we have gone to icons on the screens with a table showing what each icon means. Then, whatever language the text of the manual is in, the screens don't have to change; only the text in the description tables changes.
It's not a perfect system. It would be best, of course, for the text to be on the screen. But that's simply not possible, even for English, given the fact that screens change throughout the development of the machine and its program, sometimes right up until the day it ships!
