Well, you changed the discussion. I believe the national organization has a positive cashflow. The national organization gets the $160, with a small stipend sent to each chapter based on some criteria. However, the national organization's income really doesn't help our resource issue at the local level.
You see, the main resource problem is active and involved members. Our resource bottleneck is the board of directors, they already have things on their plate, adding more causes other things, including inclination to volunteer, to slip. Competitions are a national thing. There must be some consistency in judging, a set of rules or guidelines that you attempt to control so it doesn't vary too much. An online competition that all could judge ... well ... what about quality control on the judges? And, again, you are asking for resources, resources to set up the Web interaction that permits all of that, resources to tally judges comments and votes .... And, of course, the parameters of the competition are set at by the national organization. So, what you propose is that the content delivered on a Website is not leading edge, but content in a blog would be leading edge, and content in a blog would be read and responded to whereas the same Web based content won't be. So, redirecting resources and making a blog a priority would be worthwhile. I'm not sure I buy it. I read a bunch of interesting blogs to which few, or none, respond. The chapter has had a forum presence at stcforums for about 6 months and only one chapter member has posted in that dynamic medium (granted, you need to log in). Where were we? Is this an allocation/priorities issue? Given the number of members and the cost of the annual convocation, it would appear that there is positive cash flow. For any professional organization to survive, it has to stay meaningful, current and relevant. Being out there on the leading edge might be a draw to the younger crowd, too. What if some of the competitions were held online so all could see and judge? What if. "Brierley, Sean" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Understood. However, the Website is in place already and sort of being maintained. To replace it with a blog, or to add a blog, adds learning curve and a need for resources. A blog would be good, we need the Webmaster to have the time to work it in. Then, at some point, the Webmaster could find the time to switch over to a blog or decide to maintain both a Website and a blog. In any event, adding what is not already there is a request for more resources. Cheers. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Samuel Wright Sent: Friday, February 23, 2007 10:50 AM To: TECHWR-L Subject: Re: [TCP] ranting STC RE: What did you learnwhenyouparticipatedinthe On 23/02/07, Milan Davidovic wrote: > On 2/23/07, Brierley, Sean wrote: > > Why add the overhead of a blog? > > Even better. One feature of most blogging software is the very low maintenance and easy editing, without need for ftp or publishing software.
