Of course you're qualified, John. What's your point?

_Because_ you've been on the other side of the desk, you know all of the
following to be real possibilities:

1. The hiring manager floated a position he thought was going to be
funded but the promised authorization is "on hold" (meaning the CFO
doesn't have the balls to tell him it ain't ever gonna happen).

2. The contractor who has been filling the position is converting to a
full-time employee and has a 100% chance of keeping the job, but the
company is required to advertise it anyway. It's just coincidental that
you have all the same (or higher) qualifications than the person who's
there already.

3. The hiring manager is sincere in wanting to fill the position and
your name is at the top of her list, but she has been attending to more
urgent matters (business or personal) and has pushed the hire to the
back burner.

4. The company with the black hole has an incompetent jerk in the HR
office and everyone knows it but they haven't figured out a way to get
rid of the person without being sued.

5. Today's mail will contain a job offer.

I'm hoping for number 5, for your sake, but I'm not holding my breath
and neither should you.

Dick, happily self-employed in New Haven and looking forward to never
seeing the inside of cubicle again
