Everything I've read (and experienced!) says to do what you can to put your
name and resume in the hiring manager's consciousness. Of course, you want
to be tactful as well, and if there is any instruction in the company's
application that says not to call, be respectful of that. Otherwise, I would
say that a friendly "just thought I'd put a voice to the name" call is
perfectly in order.
