Overt efforts at "employee retention" strike me as a symptom that
something in the company is wrong. If the company does things right,
employees stay.

If I felt underappreciated, I'd take it as an indication that I wasn't
a good fit, so I'd either be looking for ways to fit better or for
someplace new. But that's me.
