A bit more thinking on the above and I decided to try the following. I ensured there were no filters operating in the hotmail account. Set up 5 new filters as follows. If the incoming (From) email address contains the letter "a" send it to the Inbox. If the incoming (From) email address contains the letter "e" send it to the Inbox. And so on for the 5 vowels. Now it seems all emails are getting through to Thunderbird and I am setting up the Tbird junk mail settings and filters to ensure genuine stuff goes to my Inbox (or other folders) and junk goes to Junk (where I can check for the unmissable opportunities of $25 million if I only send a bank transfer, etc!).
So far it looks promising but it's early days. Sandy
