I'm afraid it's not that simple.
For example, if we were to completely re-invent the sidebar (not to 
mention the layout as a whole), the various selectors/mappings simply 
wouldn't apply anymore.

Having said that, if someone put effort into redesigning the TiddlyWiki 
UI, presenting a tangible proposal*, that would be a better basis for 
any discussions.

* ideally as a theme, with a plugin to neutralize the style-sheet shadow 
tiddlers (that's a few simple lines of code)
