My GBP 0.05 I liked TiddlyWiki.com before the re-write. It felt hand crafted. I liked the fact that is inventor had updated it and that the design was consistent of the inventor's vision. Viewing the 'fractal veg', and finding the young Jerm had programmed the BBC micor for a Richard Dawkins TV project was enough. I the name Osmosoft, that the software orginated in the UK. I thought it has character which most other software I used didn't.
I read the 'amateurishness' in another way - the aesthetic is above comercial projects in the sense that TW does not need 'make-up' or CSS plastic surgury. The aesthetic invites curiosity and makes for a learning curve. First you will want to change the colour of something, then you will have to learn about the existance of CSS. You will have to learn about html and <div>. If anything, I would like TW to look like an old school professor page, one constructed in html 4. CSS fashion changes so quickly, and now UI has jQuery and Moo all over it. The true beauty for in TW is the design, the concept of tiddlers, the built in learning curve and the ermerging culture arround this learning. The focus on CCS is a distraction. TW is not like a ready meal like Basecamp. You have to know what's in the kitchen, look at a few books. "Its not about giving a man a fish: its giving him a tiddler of his own" (applologies in advance) ALex 2009/4/27 FND <[email protected]> > > > backward compatibility is easily taken care of with only a view > > lines of a DepreciatedStyleSheet tiddler > > I'm afraid it's not that simple. > For example, if we were to completely re-invent the sidebar (not to > mention the layout as a whole), the various selectors/mappings simply > wouldn't apply anymore. > > Having said that, if someone put effort into redesigning the TiddlyWiki > UI, presenting a tangible proposal*, that would be a better basis for > any discussions. > > > -- F. > > > * ideally as a theme, with a plugin to neutralize the style-sheet shadow > tiddlers (that's a few simple lines of code) > > > > -- t: 0161 442 2202 m: 0781 372 50 17 skype: alexhough delicious: alexhough --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TiddlyWiki" group.
