As I never wrote a story, maybe I don't understand why it seems required. 
So maybe you can explain? Why would you need to copy "back and forth" Do 
you write more than one story at the same time? Then I can imagine that 
it's difficult. Otherwise I think it's easy. At least with TW5. Have the 
Character wiki in one window and the current story wiki in anoter. 
Remember: The story wiki started out as a copy of the character wiki. So 
when you now do a change in a character tiddler, drag that tiddler, after 
the edit, to the character wiki. That's it.

Anyhow. With TW5 you could use the node.js version. As far as I understood 
it handles single-file tiddlers. So when you have your character tiddlers 
in a seperate subdirectory which you keep in a (for example git) 
repository, it should be possible to accomplish what you want.
