Based on the various samples that we have seen with Wayne's script and other graphs, it looks like a new pool member should expect to contribute at least 3GB (in+out) per month, possibly more. While that number may be "really low" to some, it may be very significant to others. And it has been pointed out several times that once you are in the pool, if you wish to leave it takes a long time for the ntp requests to subside after you are out of the DNS rotation.
