Ah - sounds like the channel was running 20 minutes late. I bet this
was something that aired after a sporting event, or some other live
event (like a Presidential address, etc) that ran long. Networks will
often simply bump their entire schedule to allow a live event to run
long. Since this happens at the last minute, DVRs don't know about
this so they record at the time the guide data says to record.

This happens all the time and is one of the common complaints about
DVRs, but it is really no worse than a VCR or any other recording
device. There isn't a way for the device to know about last minute
shifts, so they can't compensate. What some people do is record
entire blocks of programming after a sporting even to make sure they
catch the show they want. But this isn't a good solution of there are
other programs on other channels that you also want to record.

Yep. If the guide data says something is supposed to air from 20:00
to 22:00, but say a football game that was supposed to run from 16:00
to 20:00 runs twenty minutes long, to 20:20, the network will probably
run the movie from 20:20 to 22:20. But the TiVo can't know that, so
it records from 20:00 to 22:00 - capturing the last 20 minutes of
whatever was on before the movie, and missing the last 20 minutes of
the movie.

I don't think I understand the question...
