Yep. If you only have one card in an S3, then you only have one usable tuner. Each tuner needs a card to decrypt encrypted channels. And if the unit was configured with two cards in place, pulling a card could confuse it a bit. You might want to re-run Guided Setup with the one card in place. But artifacts? Nope. The cards have nothing to do with quality. Well, one possibility. If your cable system is doing ADS - Analog-Digital Simulcast - where the same content is sent on an analog channel *and* a digital channel, WITH a card the unit can use the digital content, but WITHOUT a card it'll use the analog content. And the digital content (not HD, just digital) can look better. > And since then I don't get any channels past advanced basic > cable.(099) but I subscribe to everything up to 999. Also the basic > channels that were HD and clear are not as much. I don't want to > call and ask them to bring it back unless I knew for sure that it Basic cable channels are *never* HD. Only digital cable is HD. Since you're getting a new TiVo I would not have Charter come back to put a card in the current box. Just live with one tuner (re-run Guided Setup with the one card installed) until you have the new box. It just isn't worth trying to deal with a box that will be replaced. > talking about another machine. Is one a Recorder (the TCD648250B and > the other not?) No, all TiVo's are recorders - that's what they do. The TiVo HD is just a newer, lower priced model in their lineup. Software-wise it has all the same features as the Series3, the hardware is just different. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.TiVoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -><- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171
