MZ,
I ran through the Guided Setup again with only the one card in but it didn't
seem to make any difference as far as pulling in any
more channels, anything past 99, so apparently each card was still pulling in
channels. The one they removed was apparently
accepting all the digital, HD & premium channels. It must have been ~that~
card because I was getting most of these channels when
it was there, albeit intermittently. If that's the case it makes me wonder how
it could have been a defective slot in the TiVo?

>Yep. If you only have one card in an S3, then you only have one
usable tuner. Each tuner needs a card to decrypt encrypted channels.
And if the unit was configured with two cards in place, pulling a card
could confuse it a bit. You might want to re-run Guided Setup with
the one card in place.
The cards have nothing to do with quality.
Well, one possibility. If your cable system is doing ADS -
Analog-Digital Simulcast - where the same content is sent on an analog
channel *and* a digital channel, WITH a card the unit can use the
digital content, but WITHOUT a card it'll use the analog content. And
the digital content (not HD, just digital) can look better.
Since you're getting a new TiVo I would not have Charter come back to
put a card in the current box. Just live with one tuner (re-run
Guided Setup with the one card installed) until you have the new box.
It just isn't worth trying to deal with a box that will be replaced.<

>No, all TiVo's are recorders - that's what they do. The TiVo HD is
just a newer, lower priced model in their lineup. Software-wise it
has all the same features as the Series3, the hardware is just
different.<

The reason I asked about that is because the S2 I have is a DVD burner & a DVD
Player, whereas the S3 is not. I had to purchase a
separate DVD Player. I just have to learn what all the terms mean when I speak
:)But they have removed that feature from the TiVo
box.

Thanks for your continued support,
Sandra
