Whatever they were I believe God's Truth survives in spite of all that rather than because of a lot of it. I'm not proud of the history of most of the professing Church, crusades, dark ages, corrupt popes. To this day the rcc keeps the Word of God bound when they tell people that without their magisterium they can not understand it. This is a bald faced lie.  But thankfully God has always had a remnant.  jt
