Examples:

 

In Exodus, Moshe gives us information on the Tabernacle. He gives very little visual information (essence). Instead, he gives the function of the Tabernacle (which, in the Hebraic mindset is far more important). We know what material is used in the curtains, for instance, but beyond the use of the color blue… very little visual information. The color blue is detailed because its FUNCTION is to remind us to obey the commandments of YHVH (see Numbers 15).

I can remember that, but I am not certain what you mean.  I think of function as how something works (Functions) and I think of essence as another word for perfume.  Is there a way to say the same thing using different words that I might be more familiar with?

 



I'm readen and learnen  ----   and laughing just a little bit.   The okie in me is in full agreement.   Is it kind of like the political liberal's use of symbolism over substance?
