Hi Joe The area I push Uv is complex transaction processing. RDBMS are designed for High Volume Simple transaction processing. When the Business rules become complex and there is a high level of crossreference, Uv outperforms. A Pick application runs in virtually every bank in the world from the retail banking to the funds management from IBM mainframes to small Credit Unions. Large pharmacuticals and distribution compannies use universe. Health, Banking, Distribution are domintated by Multi dimensional databases.
One English Governement department I think is running around 30,000 users, Australian Tax office, French Telecom, British Airways and IBM are also users of Universe. The thing is most fortune 1000 companies don't know if they are using Universe and don't really care as long as it does the job. You never heard of a fortune 1000 switching to Universe, because they probably don't know that they did. They would have brought masterpack or one of 4000 software packages developed for Universe. Datastage whilst it was running on Universe was implemented in a number of fortune 1000 companies and its scalability and performance outgunned the other database products. The major Unix Boxes have all stated in the past that the largest database running on a single CPU box is a Universe database. You are way underestimating the capabilites of Universe. I cannot think of any Advanced level of Software development that Universe is not involved with, Currently I run webservices against Universe Database, allowing Microsoft Infopath forms to update the universe database through webservices using xml. I have been developed applications that inteface with Speech Services, SMS gateways, EDI systems, etc. I may not convince you about the advantages of Universe, but I wish you would not dispell it without doing more homework Regards David Jordan -- u2-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.oliver.com/mailman/listinfo/u2-users
